The previous teaser trailer gave us our first glimpse of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster / Mighty Thor, but in this official trailer, she and Thor finally converse. Despite it being 8 years since they last saw each other, it is clear that Thor is not over her, seeing as he remembers how long it has been and she teases him with it having been 3-4 years and he subsequently corrects her. Then again, Marvel is known for creating long-lasting romantic relationships that usually end in tragedy, leaving one or the other pining for their lost one.

Examples of these are Thor and Jane (separated in Thor: The Dark World until now), Tony and Pepper (Tony died in Avengers: Endgame), Wanda and Vision (Vision died in Avengers: Infinity War and again in WandaVision and Wanda possibly but unlikely, thanks to Elizabeth Olsen’s contract with Marvel Studios, perished in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), Captain America and Peggy Carter (Peggy died in Captain America: Civil War, but they got their happy ending in Avengers: Endgame), Peter Parker and MJ (Doctor Strange wiped everyone’s memories of Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home) and more. In comparison to all these tragic endings, at least Hawkeye and his wife, Laura, and their three children have their happy ending (introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron and going strong till the present), and Fitz and Simmons from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finally have their daughter, Alya, in the series finale of the very first Marvel television series.

In the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, in addition to the Thor and Jane / Mighty Thor interactions, we also get our first glimpse of Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, a galactic killer “who seeks the extinction of the gods.” Additionally, we see Russell Crowe as Zeus, who flicks too hard and…flings away all of Thor’s clothes. It is a sight to see, for sure, and Mighty Thor asks Valkyrie if they should help him, to which the latter answers, “Eventually”. Then again, considering all the women around Zeus faint and S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Daisy Johnson, Melinda May and Maria Hill, and Doctor Helen Cho in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Avengers: Age of Ultron respectively admire Thor’s good looks, it is hardly surprising that such a reaction should occur.

While we have yet to see her in either trailer, the new poster officially confirms the return of Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif (in the cast listed at the bottom of the poster). Due to scheduling conflicts with her show, Blindspot, Alexander was unable to appear in Thor: Ragnarok or Avengers: Infinity War or Endgame, marking her last Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 and an uncredited guest appearance in a dream sequence in Loki Season 1. Seeing as this is the first appearance of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster / Mighty Thor since Thor: The Dark World as well, aside from a cameo voice appearance in Avengers: Endgame and an appearance in the animated series, What If…? alongside both Hemsworth and Alexander, Thor: Love and Thunder promises to bring fans back to the first phase of the MCU and remind fans why they fell in love with the storylines and characters in the first place.
