Welcome back, book and comic nerds! This weekend is one of the most anticipated events of the year: San Diego Comic-Con! This is the first time since the start of the pandemic that the convention has made a full in-person return. SYNOPSIS:
Honeysuckle Speck is starting a new chapter with her girlfriend, Yolanda, as they move in together in Boulder, Colorado. All seems perfect until the sky darkens and crystal-like nails fall from the sky and cut the skin of anyone who does not take shelter. Yolanda and Honeysuckle must try to navigate this apocalyptic event as it threatens the lives of those they love most.
WHY:
Adapted from Joe Hill’s novella of the same name, David M. Booher brings Rain to a new audience through this five-issue series. This comic is also the first of Syzygy Publishing imprint line of titles at Image Comics. Zoe Thorogood is credited as the artist behind the cover art.

Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse

SYNOPSIS:
What’s better than one Spider-Gwen? A whole multiverse of Spider-Gwens! We all know Gwen Stacey was bitten by a radioactive spider and became known as Spider-Woman (or Ghost-Spider). But in this new mini-series of comics, Gwen travels through time and comes face-to-face with all the Gwens in the Gwenverse. There’s a Gwen who wields Mjolnir, has a high-tech suit, and many more!
WHY:
Tim Seeley of Heroes Reborn: Marvel Double Action and Jodi Nishijima of United States of Captain America have come together to create this new five-issue mini-series. It is currently ongoing, with it’s fourth issue releasing on July 20, 2022.

Little Monsters
by Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen
SYNOPSIS:
The last children left on Earth just so happen to be vampires. For as long as they can remember, the gang has lived in a state of wonder regarding humanity. But when events begin unfolding, the children make discoveries that obliterate any innocence they once had.
WHY:
Jeff Lemire, known for his comics in both DC and Marvel Comics, and artist Dustin Nguyen, known for his work for DC and WindStorm, combined powers to create Little Monsters under Image Comics. This series is currently ongoing, with its sixth issue coming out on August 3, 2022.
