With Thor: Love and Thunder tickets finally being available for purchase, three weeks in advance of the movie’s July 8 release date, new character posters have been released, in addition to the confirmation of the main characters on Thor’s ‘greatest team ever’ in a new promotional video.
In the video, Thor confirms that the main characters in the upcoming film will be himself (obviously), his best friend Korg, Valkyrie (both of whom first appeared in Thor: Ragnarok), the Guardians of the Galaxy (minus Gamora), and Jane Foster / Mighty Thor (his old ex-girlfriend who last appeared in Thor: The Dark World, with a voice cameo appearance in Avengers: Endgame and an alternate timeline version of her character appearing in What If…?).
While most of these characters and Gorr the God Butcher (the villain of the upcoming Thor movie) have new character posters, there are some who don’t, including the Guardians of the Galaxy characters who don’t have their individual (or even a team) poster. Another notable character who doesn’t have her own poster is Jaimie Alexander’s Lady Sif, one of the last few remaining characters from the first Thor movie who is still alive. This brings to question how big her role in the movie will be, especially seeing as she has yet to appear in trailer footage from either the teaser or the official trailer releases.
Thor is the first character in the MCU who will get four solo films, although Tom Holland’s Peter Parker / Spider-Man is slated to get a second trilogy, in addition to his first, which concluded last December. Given that characters like Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, Chris Evans’ Captain America, and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow are all dead and/or retired, the three remaining original Avengers are Thor, Hawkeye, and the Hulk. Hawkeye last appeared in Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series Hawkeye (originally released in November-December 2021) and the Hulk will appear in Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series She-Hulk, which will be released starting on August 17, 2022.
With the release of Thor: Love and Thunder, OG Marvel fans will finally see the return of the original Avengers to the big screen, for the first time since Avengers: Endgame (not counting the Hulk’s mid-credits scene in Shang-Chi).
