Bestselling author Andrew Joseph White announced on social media that his debut young adult novel, Hell Followed With Us, is getting a movie! Here are all the details we know about the project so far.
The Matrix director is bringing this YA horror to life!
Deadline reported that production companies Trustbridge Entertainment and Anarchists United are attached to the project. Anarchists United is the production company of Lilly Wachowski, who with her sister Lana Wachowski, directed the first three movies in the Matrix franchise.
Both with her sister and independently, Lilly Wachowski has worked on several iconic queer projects, including the 1996 movie Bound and the hit Netflix series Sense8. In February 2024, Collider announced that Wachowski is the director for the upcoming queer movie Trash Mountain, which will star comedian Caleb Hearon.
Upon the announcement of Hell Followed With Us’ movie adaptation, Wachowski released this statement alongside her Anarchists United co-founder and Circle Management + Production Founding Partner Lawrence Mattis:

Trustbridge Entertainment President Bobb Higgins shared that the movie would be an “epic anime-inspired feature” but otherwise, little else is known about the project so far.
Hell Hath No Fury Like a Found Family
Hell Followed With Us is the story of sixteen-year-old Benji, a trans boy on the run from the cult that raised him. The cult unleashed Armageddon and destroyed the world’s population, leaving Benji to hunt for a place outside of the cult’s immense reach. When he’s rescued from monsters by a group known as the ALC, ALC’s leader, Nick, offers Benji protection. But Nick also knows Benji’s biggest secret: Benji is infected with the cult’s deadly bioweapon, and it’s mutating him into the most dangerous monster of all.
When it was released in 2022, Hell Followed With Us received instant acclaim. Readers and critics alike praised White’s writing for its visceral horror elements, thorough world-building, and heartwarming use of the found-family trope. With the announcement of an animated movie adaptation, fans eagerly await more details on the project as it develops.
