Two trailers in two days! In addition to the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer release yesterday, we now have The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special trailer to celebrate the holidays with! Happy early Christmas from Star-Lord, Mantis, Drax, Nebula, Kraglin, Cosmo, Rocket, Groot and Kevin Bacon!
Unlike the other Guardians of the Galaxy movies, which premiered exclusively in the cinemas, this is one of Marvel Studios’ Special Presentations, which means that it will air on Disney Plus on November 25. The special presentation is set after Avengers: Endgame and tells the story of the Guardians kidnapping Kevin Bacon!
Since Peter Quill/Star-Lord lost Gamora, the love of his life, in Avengers: Infinity War, he is mourning her loss over Christmas. She is not the first person he has lost; he lost his mother to cancer, his biological father tried to kill him, and his adopted father died saving his life. All these losses have made it difficult for him to celebrate Christmas, so his fellow Guardians decide to try to make Christmas better for him.
As a result, Mantis and Drax decide to kidnap Kevin Bacon, a hero of Star-Lord, in an attempt to make him feel better!
This is the second Christmas-themed Marvel Studios’ Disney Plus project, the first being Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye, which aired almost a year ago. Hawkeye featured OG Avenger, Clint Barton, and his new protege, Kate Bishop, in a six-episode series.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will likely be more like a short movie and will obviously tie into the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will air exclusively in cinemas on May 5, 2023. While most theories suggest that Gamora will not return in the Holiday Special, a younger version of her character will return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, thus completing the Guardians’ group once more.
