Riding the success of her hit single Espresso, Sabrina Carpenter has just released a brand-new music video ahead of her new album Short n’ Sweet. The song, Please Please Please, is a catchy look into a (potentially) toxic relationship, enhanced with gorgeous visuals from the new video.

Summer Singles

Please Please Please is the perfect sister song to Espresso, which has a music video that came out earlier this year. With warm summer visuals and outfits that perfectly matched the cheery and upbeat vibe of the song, Espresso quickly shot to the top of the charts. The video ends with Carpenter getting arrested, which she happily played with by beginning the Please Please Please video in jail.

Surprise Star

The Nonsense singer writes about being ashamed by the rumored habits of a new beau; she’s embarrassed to be seen with him in public and warns him not to mess up. Some fans are theorizing that the song is about her supposed current boyfriend, Barry Keoghan, and I don’t find that hard to believe… considering he was heavily featured in the music video!

I think our jaws all dropped when we saw Keoghan enter the frame, bracketed by police guards. The Please Please Please music video includes the singer’s current boyfriend as the object of her character’s affection. This charismatic jailbird seems to have fallen into some more violent habits.

Wardrobe Win

The video’s stunning visuals and sexy outfits were the perfect companion to Carpenter’s new song, altering the casual and vague meaning of Please Please Please into a dramatic story about a woman whose boyfriend is just not cutting it. Taking inspiration from famous couples like Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson or Sid and Nancy, Keoghan’s Irish-mob style clothing and Carpenter’s extravagant mob-wife aesthetic perfectly pulled off the “I’m too good for him” vibe of both the song and the video.

Pop Perfection

Musically, Please Please Please is a hot mix of 80s-style disco-pop, soft harmonies, and even a little country — note the twang when she sings, “Don’t embarrass me, motherf*cker.” Espresso also has some 80s synthpop influences, so we can expect more genre-bending in Short n’ Sweet.
