With the start of production of the Percy Jackson series in Vancouver, the upcoming Percy Jackson Disney+ series has added five more to the cast of the show, all in recurring and guest star roles.
Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullaly and Timm Sharp have joined Walker Scobell who plays the titular character, Percy Jackson, and Aryan Simhadri and Leah Sava Jeffries who play Grover Underwood and Annabeth Chase respectively.
Kull will portray Sally Jackson, Percy’s mother; Turman will portray Chiron/Mr Brunner, the head of Camp Half-Blood and one of Percy’s teachers; Mantzoukas will portray Dionysius, the God of Wine in exile from Olympus and a co-head of Camp Half-Blood; Mullally will portray Alecto/Mrs Dodds, one of Hades’ Furies and another of Percy’s teachers; and Sharp will portray Gabe Ugliano, Percy’s stepfather and a disgusting bully of a man.
Similar to how the Percy Jackson Disney+ series has already cast main characters diversely, regardless of how they are described in the books, these five recurring and guest characters have been given the same treatment. Rick Riordan is adamant that he is focused on the energy and the portrayal of the characters as accurate, as opposed to the physical description of the actors and characters.
With production on the Percy Jackson Disney+ show having started on June 2 and several cast announcements already released, it stands to reason that we will receive more news about the upcoming show soon. Stay tuned for more information and until then, reread the book series to your heart’s content! One can never get enough of Seaweed Brain’s adventures….
