The upcoming Percy Jackson Disney+ series has finally found their Percy Jackson! Walker Scobell, who plays the younger version of Ryan Reynolds’ character in The Adam Project on Netflix, will play the 12-year old son of Poseidon in the upcoming series.
The Disney+ series for Rick Riordan’s famous Percy Jackson book series was ordered back in January. It is the second adaptation of the series, the first being movie adaptations of the first two novels, starring Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson as Percy, Annabeth and Grover respectively.
This upcoming Disney+ series already promises to be much more faithful to the books and the narrative, thanks to Rick Riordan’s active involvement in the series, and the casting of a younger teenager to play the role of the 12-year old demigod.
The upcoming series promises to have eight episodes, telling the story of the first book in the Percy Jackson series, Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief. The synopsis of this book is:
Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is on the most dangerous quest of his life. With the help of a satyr and a daughter of Athena, Percy must journey across the United States to catch a thief who has stolen the original weapon of mass destruction — Zeus’ master bolt. Along the way, he must face a host of mythological enemies determined to stop him. Most of all, he must come to terms with a father he has never known, and an Oracle that has warned him of betrayal by a friend.
Now that the series has found their lead, fans have even more to get excited about! Several writers and directors have already been confirmed to be working on the series; Rick Riordan himself and Jon Steinberg are writing the pilot, with James Bobin directing. The executive producers of the show are: Steinberg and his producing partner Dan Shotz, along with Bobin, Rick Riordan, Rebecca Riordan, Bert Salke, Monica Owusu-Breen, Jim Rowe, and Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, and D.J. Goldberg. The show is scheduled to start production this summer. Camp Half-Blood indeed!
