In an exciting development for comic book and fantasy fans alike, legendary actor Patrick Stewart has been announced as a cast member in the upcoming popular comic book series Barbaric, published by Vault Comics. Known for his iconic roles in Star Trek and X-Men, Stewart’s addition to the cast promises to bring a new level of depth to the film.
The Comic Book Series
Barbaric, created by Michael Moreci and Nathan Gooden, has garnered a dedicated following since its indie debut. The series follows the story of Owen, played by Sam Claflin, a cursed barbarian compelled to do good deeds despite his natural inclination towards violence and chaos. His constant companion is a sentient, bloodthirsty axe, played by Stewart, who has a penchant for sarcastic commentary, adding a layer of dark humor to the narrative.
Barbaric can be described as Deadpool meets Game of Thrones because of its ability to blend violence and humor. Director Michael Bay, known for his intense and high-octane movies like Bad Boys and Transformers, is making his TV debut with this show. With Sheldon Turner, writer of X-Men: First Class working on the script and serving as an executive producer, this show is sure to make a splash.
Patrick Stewart’s Humor
Stewart is going to be playing a pivotal role in the series. Although he isn’t the lead character, his role as Axe will find himself on the screen almost as much as Owen. Despite its drinking problem, Axe serves as Owen’s moral compass. It declares what Owen can and can’t kill, typically accompanied by a quip or sarcastic joke.
Stewart is almost perfect for this because his delivery and tone of voice certainly do fit the role of a borderline psychotic and intoxicated yet still moral weapon. Stewart isn’t new to playing in a comedy, and his experience will help Axe feel more genuine in its humor. Axe is sarcastic and always seeks another drink, meaning Stewart will brush up on his drunken acting. The show will be judged on the back-and-forth shared between Owen and Axe, but the actors playing these roles will certainly do an incredible job.
There is no word on when this show will be released, but it’s something to look forward to. In the meantime, make sure to read the comics because they are worth the time. It’s a great read, full of bloody fights, sarcastic humor, and twisted plot themes. It’s certainly a good time to be had.
