If you’re anything like me, all you want this summer is to beat the heat and stay inside. Yes, beach trips are fun, and it’s nice to get some sunlight, but eventually you just want to cozy up in an air-conditioned room with a good movie or a bingeable TV show. Here are 13 movies and TV shows coming out that are just waiting for you to discover them this July.

7/11: Longlegs – For All of the Disturbing Horror Fans

A man with shoulder-length gray hair in a blue flannel shirt and white undershirt stands in front of the camera. He has his hands over his head and in front of his face in a weird position.

This hideously scary new film promises to burrow under your skin and leave you paranoid and shaking for the rest of the week. Nicolas Cage’s role in this movie is like nothing we’ve seen him do before, so hopefully he delivers!

7/12: Descendants: The Rise of Red – For Disney Movie Fans

Four woman with brightly-colored curly hair stand in a row. They are dressed from left to right in light blue, pink, bright blue, and red outfits and hair.

For all you Descendants fans out there (don’t be shy), here comes the fourth movie in the beloved Disney franchise, and it’s bringing back someone who — in my not-so-humble opinion — was the very best Cinderella: Brandy!

7/12: Fly Me to the Moon – For Those Who Know the Moon Landing Was Faked

A man and a woman stand on a wooden pier. The woman, to the left (Scarlett Johannson) is wearing a yellow shirt and the man (Channing Tatum) is wearing a blue collared shirt.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had that song stuck in my head ever since I saw the trailer for the first time. What promises to be a hilarious take on the 1969 moon landing debuts this July!

7/12: The Serpent Queen Season 2 Premiere – For All of You History Buffs

An ornately dressed crowd in period clothing parts for a brunette woman with a stern expression. She is wearing black and green robes and they are all standing in what looks like a cathedral.

A deep dive into the life of France’s most famous queen, Catherine de Medici, this show’s second season is highly anticipated.

7/15: The Jetty – For Doctor Who Fans Who Are Still in Love With Jenna Coleman

A brunette teenager leans on the shoulder of a brunette woman. They are both looking at the camera and sitting in front of a stone wall. The girl is dressed in a school girls outfit.

For our UK readers, The Jetty will be out soon on BBC! It follows a harrowing journey a detective must take to learn the truth — at any cost. For US readers, stay tuned for a release on American streaming platforms!

7/16: Season 1 Finale of The Acolyte – For Hopeful Star Wars Fans

A girl (Amandla Stenberg) holds a red lightsaber up to the neck of a boy. They are pinned against a rock formation on the beach, but we can only see from their mid-chests up.

In what has so far been a disappointment to Star Wars fans, The Acolyte’s success hinges on its final episode: Will it skyrocket to infamy with an exceptional finale, or will it flop into obscurity?

7/17: Simone Biles Rising – For People Who Are Following the Olympics This Year

An image of Simone Biles with her eyes closed and hair in a bun, wearing what looks like a gymnastics leotard. To the side are the words "Simone Biles Rising" and in the top left is the Netflix logo.

Get a glimpse into the personal life of one of America’s most famous gymnasts with this limited docuseries from Netflix! Biles’s highly anticipated return to the Olympics will be all the sweeter after her previous struggles with mental health prevented her from participating in the 2020 Olympics.

7/17: Twisters – For Fans of Classic Disaster Movies

A girl who seems to be close to flying up into the air grabs hold of a man on the floor. They are in a destroyed old movie theater.
IMAGE VIA UNIVERSAL

Glen Powell (recently appointed heartthrob of America) stars in this epic revival of the disaster movie genre. Films like this make me happier than ever to be living in the Pacific Northwest — no tornadoes!

7/24: Time Bandits – For Fans of Taika Waititi’s Strange Brain

Six people stand in front of what looks like a valley in between two mountain ranges. They are dressed in an assortment of weird viking/knight clothes.
IMAGE VIA APPLE TV+

This television show is actually an adaptation of a 1980s film of the same name; they both center on an 11-year-old boy and a ragtag group of thieves (who can also time travel). As you may expect, hilarity will ensue.

7/26: Deadpool and Wolverine – For Those of You Who Only Watched X-Men for Hugh Jackman

Deadpool lies on the snow, with Wolverine on top of him, mid-yell. Deadpool is wearing a full-cover red suit with black eye-markings and wolverine is wearing a yellow suit with what looks like a hard armor.

The wait is finally over! All of our favorite Deadpool and X-Men characters are back in this superhero comedy, hoping to revive the washed-up MCU.

7/29: Futurama Season 12 Premiere – For the Original Fans

A cartoon of a man with orange hair, a robot, and a woman with purple hair in a ponytail and one eye. They are standing in front of what looks like New Mexico. The man is holding a box of tentacles and the robot's center has opened up to reveal a weird creature.

Since its premiere back in 1999, Futurama has delivered hilarious quips and compelling characters that will force you to turn on captions — because you can’t hear the show over the laughter!

8/1: A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder – For Fans of the ‘British Teens Solving Murders’ Genre

Five teenagers sit on front steps looking at the camera. There are three girls on the left and two boys on the right.
IMAGE VIA NETFLIX

This highly anticipated adaptation of Holly Jackson’s best-selling series is set to debut on August 1st. Amid some nervousness and controversy about the show’s quality and accuracy to the book, I’m still beyond excited for its debut and can’t wait to hear what you all think!

Bonus: House of the Dragon is Still Airing!

A woman (Rhaenyra) looks into the eyes of a man (Daemon) and puts her hand on his chest. They are standing in a dark but warmly lit stone room.
IMAGE VIA MAX

And don’t forget, House of the Dragon is still coming out, and — if it’s even possible — is more intense than ever. Make sure to check out the show on Max; if you don’t have time, take a look at our thorough recaps of each episode!

Be sure to check out these movies and let us know what you think on Instagram, Facebook, and X! Did you re-watch all of the X-Men movies or the Futurama seasons to prepare? Did you have to leave the Longlegs premiere because you told your friends you had to use the bathroom, but really you were just terrified (totally random question; I don’t know anyone that this has happened to)? And, if you’re watching House of the Dragon, are you team Green or team Black? Let us know!
