As we draw closer to the sure-to-be blockbuster hit, Marvel’s Deadpool and Wolverine (in theaters July 26, 2024), Marvel Entertainment suddenly releases its first teaser trailer for the next Captain America installment: Captain America: Brave New World. This trailer will no doubt bring back the anticipation of wanting to watch the next chapter of the ever-growing MCU.
The Wait is Over
It’s been a while since we’ve last seen Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), his latest being The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which came out on streaming March 19, 2021, on Disney Plus. It has been three years since then, and with a few name changes to the movie title (previously called the New World Order), fans wondered how long it would be until we get to marvel at the new Captain America and see how he fares with the shield’s massive weight of responsibility and legacy. But we don’t have to wait long, as the latest trailer confirms the movie’s theatrical release on Valentine’s Day 2025.
Captain America: Brave New World Trailer
The trailer, which is only a minute long, doesn’t give everything away but does leave enough to keep viewers intrigued. Sam Wilson’s Captain America, despite finally accepting the mantle Steve Rogers left him, doesn’t mean others will acknowledge it. Thaddeus Ross, originally played by William Hurt, who unfortunately passed away, will now be portrayed by Harrison Ford (they even make a joke about the actor change in the trailer), and may become an antagonist of the movie, giving a silent warning if Sam refuses to let Captain America hold a new military position — something that gives off an irking feeling. After what happened to John Walker (Wyatt Russell) in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, there’s no guarantee that the American government will handle the shield with care.
However, Sam isn’t willing to give up the shield, fighting off many obstacles as he dons his new Captain America costume, one of those obstacles played by Giancarlo Esposito. Because when you want a compelling villain, you get this amazing man to do so. The trailer looks exciting, bringing the tension of an action movie and a bit of espionage as a supposed Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), first introduced in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, attempts to kill off Thaddeus Ross as he runs for presidential office.
So Many Questions
But is it really Isaiah trying to kill Thaddeus? In the show, he wanted nothing to do but to live his life in peace. So, is it a Skrull impersonating the man? Sam said that Ross’s inner circle’s been compromised. Could this movie keep what Secret Invasion started — the distrust against everyone as Skrulls hide in plain sight?
Is the threat in the movie the U.S. government itself? What makes Sam Wilson such a threat that warrants the heavy fighting we’re excited to see? Is it due to Sam wanting to protect Isaiah’s false involvement in the assassination attempt, or is it due to Ross unwilling to let the figure of Captain America walk free from military control? So much so that Ross turns into the notorious Red Hulk? Which isn’t a spoiler when Youtubers and comic readers have stated this would happen sooner or later. Regardless, this next installment of the Captain America movies will show that Sam has what it takes to be Captain America, in his own way, as even he admits he isn’t Steve Rogers — and he isn’t trying to be. He will do what he has to, simply for the sake of the world.
There are so many questions and theories that I’m sure fans will have a field day breaking down this trailer to the minute detail, and I will be there to watch them all. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that it’s been a while since there has been excitement for a new MCU movie. Besides the upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine film, hopefully this will create good momentum for future MCU projects.
