Henery Cavill-- superman

James Gunn and Peter Safran became Heads of DC Studios in October. They aim to build a new DC Universe. After Warner Bros. canceled Batgirl and Wonder Woman 3, fans wondered about the fate of the DC Universe. So, what does it mean for all DC films, specifically Henry Cavill and Superman?

Some stayed hopeful after the success of Black Adam. Fans became more excited because the movie teased Henry Cavill’s return as Superman in a cameo during the end credits. His last appearance as Superman was in the Zack Snyder cut in the Justice League.

Henry Cavill as Superman

However, the excitement is bittersweet as James Gunn revealed his plans for the DC Extended Universe. It seems the DCEU is heading in a new direction and no longer includes Cavill as Superman despite his highly anticipated return.

Gunn shared the future plans in a tweet saying,

“Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill. But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.”

According to Variety, The new Superman story has been in the works for some time. It focuses on his early years as a reporter in Metropolis where he meets characters like Lois Lane.

Henry Cavill’s Response

Unfortunately, his return was a decision made before Gunn and Safran took control of DC Studios. Henry Cavill will no longer don the red cape but will instead pass it on. Following the news, he posted on Instagram confirming the sad announcement. He wishes “the happiest of fortunes” to the future of Superman and the DC Universe. But oh, how we wish that future includes Cavill!

Gunn mentioned in his tweet how he and Cavill discussed other exciting possibilities of working together in the future during the meeting. We wonder what exactly that means and if there is a chance he might play a different character in the DC Universe. Either way, we are excited for all of Cavill’s future projects!
