Let the bi-panic begin!
About a week ago, @netflixuk and @heartstoppertv made our hearts flutter with the announcement that Netflix’s Heartstopper Season 2 finally concluded filming and we can’t contain our excitement. As many fans of Alice Oseman’s graphic novels already know, the next season of Heartstopper takes our favorite friend group abroad to Paris on a school trip.
We first get introduced to our beloved Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) in Alice Oseman’s webcomic in 2016. Two years later, Heartstopper Volume 1, the first graphic novel, published. Then, in April 2022, Nick and Charlie’s love story hit the small screen in the eight-episode series on Netflix, both written and executive produced by Oseman.
We covered a lot of ground in season one and with three more graphic novels ahead of us, we have a lot more to cover in the next couple of seasons. In light of coming out, Charlie expressed his struggles with his mental health and as confirmed in an interview with Digital Spy, author Alice Oseman said that this is something that we will see more of in the coming season.
“[I] definitely want to be bringing in the themes of mental health, because that’s something that’s really important in the books. The challenge of writing Heartstopper is exploring those darker issues while keeping the tone so optimistic and hopeful. That has been, like, the struggle of writing it for me the whole way through.”
“But I like to think that it’s possible. I feel like I have achieved it in the books. I’ve been able to be very candid about mental health, and I explored that in a real way, while not writing something that’s intensely triggering or really dark and horrible to read or watch. So that is very much my goal for the show.”— Alice Oseman, Digital Spy
You can read more of the interview with Digital Spy here as they caught up with Alice and executive producer Patrick Walters to discuss the joys of Heartstopper, as well as what’s next for Nick and Charlie in future seasons.
Although we do not have a trailer or film clips from season two to settle our impatience, author Alice Oseman shared this super cute announcement letting us know that Heartstopper was renewed for two more seasons. We were also blessed with this adorable video with clips from the start of production. It is truly heartwarming to see all of our favorite faces and new ones all in one place. We’re totally smitten– I mean just look at them!
Back in November, Alice Oseman and Netflix Uk gave us some insight on some of the newest cast members as well as a few cast members who would be returning next season. With new cast members like Naomi, Felix, and Stephane, we are bound to see old relationships grow and new relationships blossom.
With production finally coming to a close, we’re impatiently awaiting the season 2 trailer soon and will be the first to share it with you. Meanwhile, we’ll just have to settle for cute behind the scene photos and rewatch season one for a few more times. It can’t hurt right?
Heartstopper season 1 is now streaming on Netflix. Seasons 2 and 3 are confirmed.
