If you’re a Marvel Cinematic Universe nut like I am, you definitely know that Phase 5 is going to deliver all of the greats when it comes to movies. Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania is dropping next month, the second season of What If? is dropping very soon onto Disney+ and everything else that’s coming out!

But we need to talk about one in particular that’s coming out this May: Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3! It’s unfortunately James Gunn’s final hurrah as the fire holder for the space-faring defenders of the galaxy, but there’s no doubt a lot of things that keep us questioning everything about the movie from the trailer. But we’ve recently got new information concerning the movie; the good news is that the newcomer, Adam Warlock, is officially in the movie! The bad news? James Gunn says that he’s definitely not a good guy.

But who is Adam Warlock, you may ask? Keep reading below to find out!

Wait, Who’s Adam Warlock? (Crash Course Edition)

An image of Adam Warlock who has golden locks, a red and gold cape (with what looks to be a skull at the neck) with the Infinity Gauntlet on his left hand. He is standing in front of a golden background.

So. In the comics, Adam Warlock was created by the Enclave, a group of researchers who sought to create the most perfect human being, the personification of a five-star restaurant. Unfortunately for the researchers, the being that eventually became Adam Warlock (known as “Him” initially), sensed their evil intentions, and “noped” out of their vicinity. However, he had no life experience. But fate brought him across Thor when “Him” kidnapped Lady Sif. This obviously led to a severe beating from Thor, resulting in “Him” fleeing and entering a cocoon to enter a deep sleep- where he was reborn as the one and only, Adam Warlock!

Adam Warlock is one of the more powerful characters in the comics. From dealing with Thanos, to dealing with his future evil counterpart (known as Magus), there’s a whole bunch of countless feats that this character has achieved.

That being said, since this character will be arriving in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 (played by Will Poulter), there are a lot of things to talk about from just the most recent trailer alone. However, a most recent announcement by James Gunn revealed a bit more about the upcoming space adventure.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: Hero or Villain?

In the MCU, Adam Warlock was briefly teased in the mid-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, where he was being created by the head of the Sovereign with the intent of destroying our favorite chaotic space adventurers. With Adam Warlock officially appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, James Gunn has recently confirmed that, yes, Adam Warlock is definitely not a good guy- at least, at first. According to the showrunner himself, what we’re going to be seeing initially, is the infant Adam Warlock; so, expect him to not really have a good understanding of life yet. Despite this, he is a very imposing space baby.

This could mean several things. Adam Warlock could eventually become a good guy later in the film and help out the Guardians of the Galaxy in dealing with the latest Marvel villain-of-the-week (hopefully he doesn’t die). Or he could become a full-on bad guy. Or goes his own separate way as a hero on his own terms. Regardless of such, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, is no doubt going to bring all the hype, tears, and contentment as the amazing rag-tag space adventurers go on their latest adventure on May 5, 2023!
