There are plenty of flirty fictional characters, but only some of them are actually good at it. Most of them fail, or they’re just awkward and it makes other characters uncomfortable. But these flirts are actually good — the kind where you blush and giggle and kick your feet. Keep reading, and let’s enjoy them together.
Rhysand from ACOTAR
For the sake of the article, we’re going to ignore book one Rhysand, and just focus on the next few books. The way he speaks to Feyre and how he treats her, especially in A Court of Frost and Starlight, is just perfect. He’s loving and attentive, and he’s always flirting with her as though they’re not together yet. He knows when to use his charms on her, but also when to pull back, which is definitely key. Where can we get someone like him?
Aelin Ashryver Galathinius from the Throne of Glass Series
Aelin has flirted with several other characters, though she wasn’t serious about most of them. But she’s good, especially when it’s someone she loves romantically, like Rowan. She’s not afraid or embarrassed to flirt with someone around other people, especially when she makes it dirty. She does this with friends and even enemies too, but it’s easy to tell the difference when she really loves the person, and it’s enough to make us blush.
Cardan Greenbriar from The Folk of the Air Series
He flirts with Jude for pretty much the entire series — though his definition of flirting is a little loose at times. But starting in The Wicked King, he makes his feelings more obvious, and both he and his flirting style change; Cardan literally calls her “my great villain, my darling god,” and since fae can’t lie, it’s how he feels. It’s the sincerity that makes it so swoon-worthy and enviable, on Jude’s part.
Jae-ha from Yona of the Dawn
He’s got the looks, the height, the natural charm, and charisma, and he loves women. He wouldn’t want commitment or to be pursued, as that would impinge his cherished freedom, but he loves chasing beautiful people. His flirting is somewhat of a defense mechanism, but it’s burrowed its way into every part of his life, and it seems second nature to burst out a flirtatious, witty one-liner to the other characters — some of them less innocent than others.
Prince Zen Wistaria from Snow White with the Red Hair
Chivalry is not dead with Prince Zen, and his flirting, usually with Shirayuki, is respectful. He will give her sweet compliments, kiss her hand, come save her when she gets kidnapped, and do basically anything for her. But he stops when he’s made her uncomfortable, and he never wants to take it too far or too fast. She’s not a princess yet, but he certainly treats her like one!
Duke Noah Volstaire Wynknight from Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion
He’s got his polite persona he shows everyone, but deep down, he’s a horrible tease. He loves to tease his pretend fiancée Raeliana, whether it’s acting like they’re actually engaged or teasing her being interested in him. He is deflecting a little bit, but he’s so genuinely interested and tries to tell her in both subtle and non-subtle ways. Her reactions are both endearing and amusing to him, and even once they do get together, he’ll never stop teasing.
Maybe we should all take some lessons from characters like these the next time we’re trying to flirt with someone. It works for them; maybe it’ll work for us, too!
