During the Super Bowl 2022, among the commercials that were released was the official trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that will premiere exclusively in cinemas in May 2022!
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the first Marvel movie to be released since Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is one of the highest-grossing films of all time and is still climbing, only surpassed by Avatar, Avengers: Endgame, Titanic, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Infinity War. Spider-Man: No Way Home was incredibly successful, in part thanks to the cameos from previous Marvel films, most notably Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Willem Dafoe’s Norman Osborn/Green Goblin, Alfred Molina’s Otto Octavius/Doc Ock and Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman/Flint Marko from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon/Electro and Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors/Lizard from Marc Webb’s Spider-Man series.
That being said, there have been a great many rumors as to who could appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Among them have been Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier/Professor X from the Fox X-Men series; the trailer that was released today featured a possible voiceover from Stewart and a shadowy figure that may have belonged to him! Marvel has done this before; in the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, there was a voiceover from Willem Dafoe before his appearance in the movie was confirmed as well as one of his Green Goblin pumpkin bombs.
Other exciting things in the trailer include two Doctor Stranges – the Doctor Strange we know and Strange Supreme from the What If…? animated Marvel series – as seen in the previous teaser trailer and a new inclusion: two Wandas! A shot of what appears to be Wanda in a background similar to her home in WestView and the Scarlet Witch is shown, saying an iconic line: “You break the rules…and become the hero. I do it and I become the enemy. That doesn’t seem fair.”
Life is hardly ever fair for superheroes. They do their best to save the world, to save their loved ones, but they still lose their loved ones falling to their deaths in clock towers (Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2), have to kill their loved ones because they are the only ones who can destroy the Mind Stone (Wanda and Vision in Avengers: Infinity War) and have their loved ones sacrifice their lives for them and simultaneously save the world (Daisy Johnson and Lincoln Campbell in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). Here’s to hoping that we might get some happy endings in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness! (Although thanks to What If…? chances of that appear to be very slim).
