Complete Your 2022 Goodreads Reading Goal With These Books

The end of the year is creeping up, and so is that 2022 Goodreads reading goal. Struggling to complete it? Here are books to help!

Book Culture Bookish Trends Fantasy Fiction Recommendations

I’ll admit I’m apparently seven books behind schedule, according to my 2022 Goodreads reading goal tracker. That thing haunts me to no end. I did finish a few over the weekend and some on my previous flight, so I am slowly but surely catching up! To help us all complete our Goodreads reading goal this year, I’ve gathered the best binge-worthy series and some stand-alone novels to start before the end of the year.

When choosing books to finish your goal, you want to focus on either super binge-worthy book series or stand-alone novels of under 200 pages (or binge-worthy stand-alone novels!).

This chilling retelling of Edgar Allan Poe’s classic The Fall of the House of Usher will keep you in your seat from cover to cover!

Alex Easton is a retired soldier who receives word that their childhood friend, Madeline Usher, is dying. Alex races to the ancestral home of the Ushers in the countryside of Ruritania, but what they find is an absolute nightmare. Surrounded by fungal growth and possessed wildlife amidst a dark, pulsing lake, Madeline sleeps and talks in strange voices during the night. Her brother Roderick is consumed by some mysterious malady of the nerves. With the aid of a British mycologist and an American doctor, Alex tries to unravel the secret of the mysterious House of Usher before it’s too late.

I must be careful looking this one up because I’ve only just started the second book! I can tell you one thing, though— the first book was finished in a matter of DAYS! This wouldn’t be unusual if it weren’t for the fact it is tremendously long. They are just that good!

I’ll detail the first one so you can get a look at what you’ll be falling in love with.

This deliciously dark retelling of Beauty and the Beast will keep you up at night as you sink your teeth all the way in. Sexy and action-packed, Maas’s ACOTAR series is the perfect binge-worthy series to tick off that Goodreads goal. When 19-year-old Feyre kills a larger-than-normal wolf in the woods, she thinks nothing of it besides being able to feed her family. It isn’t until a stranger comes knocking to collect a debt she now owes that things become chaotic.

Dragged off to the world of the Fae, she meets Tamlin, who isn’t anything like the legends make fairies out to be. When a darkness is threatening his world, she must step up to the plate and risk it all.

Waypoints: My Scottish Journey by Sam Heughan

I finally started this while traveling not too long ago, and I am so happy I did.

You may know Sam Heughan from the popular adaptation Outlander, but this story gives you a different look at his life— The one where he isn’t time-traveling and fighting 24/7. His self-discovery journey along Scotland’s West Highland Way is the perfect bit of exploration combined with heartfelt memories from his childhood. The walk is nearly 100 miles, and Heughan looks out upon his life, his interests, and his values. As he hikes, he maps out each moment that made him who he is and, luckily, shares these moments with us.

If you thought you devoured the first season on Netflix, wait until you start the books. If you’re looking for a series to binge-read in time to complete your reading goal, this is your go-to!

Each of these books in the series, I’ve noticed, are different as they follow different people in the Bridgerton family. I’ve read the first two so far and am excited to start the next! Let’s look at the first book, so you know what you’re getting yourself into.

Stay up all night reading the story of Daphne Bridgerton as she tries to find love as the next eligible Bridgerton daughter. Dancing her way through Regency London, rules are a must to follow. She must curtsey, learn how to address an earl, and many other unspoken things. There is one person who sees all, though, and Lady Whistledown doesn’t miss a beat. Especially when Daphne and Simon Basset start to become quite close.

Simon despises marriage and the thought of conforming to these societal norms that Daphne can’t seem to not obsess over. Will their fake courtship be enough to convince others? It will keep the ladies and mothers off Simon’s back and make Daphne especially intriguing to the other men in the town.

They can fool everyone, but can they fool Lady Whistledown?

Normal People by Sally Rooney

I asked one of Bookstr’s own (and a true bestie of mine), Savannah Swanson, which book she would recommend you binge, and here it is! Having finished it in two sittings, I think we can feel confident this will be an easy addition to your Goodreads goal. It is also an Emmy-nominated Hulu series!

Read entirely in one sitting about Connell and Marianne and how the only similarity between them is where they grew up. Connell is popular and very liked, while Marianne is a loner. However, they strike up a conversation one day, and awkwardly enough, things begin to change.

Fast forward a year, and they are both studying at Trinity College in Dublin. Things seem to have switched up as Marianne found her place in a new social scene, while Connell lays low, shy, and unsure. No matter how hard they try to fight it, they are always pulled back to one another.

Can they save one another from complete self-destruction? You’ll just have to binge and find out.

I’ll be the first to say it– I am obsessed with The Vampire Diaries. I even have a tattoo of a quote from the show. These quick and intriguing reads are perfect to tick away at that goal of yours before the year ends. They are YA also if that is more of your vibe!

Elena Gilbert is the IT girl at high school. She can have any boy she wants until suddenly, there’s a new boy in town who doesn’t seem to be falling for her usual tricks. Stefan is not only brooding and mysterious but the only one who can resist Elena. Stefan may be able to resist her, but it doesn’t stop him from trying to protect her from the things haunting his past.

In comes Damon— the dangerous and sexy brother who is seeking any way to get revenge on the brother who betrayed him. His interest in Elena? He’d kill to have her.

Looking at new houses usually isn’t a life-or-death situation, but when a bank robber bursts into an open house and takes hostages, they may be thinking otherwise. The hostages include a recently retired couple trying so hard to avoid the painful truth that they can’t fix their marriage, a wealthy bank director who is too busy to care about anything, and a young couple about to have their first baby, but can’t agree on anything, along with a few others. Each and every one of them, including the bank robber, desperately crave some sort of rescue.

The authorities and media surround the premises, but inside, these hostages are revealing some surprising truths about themselves that set in motion things not even they can explain.
