I love children’s picture books, and I think that the illustrators and their artwork often don’t receive as much attention as they should. Art makes picture books come alive, and it’s often what draws young readers in as they are developing their reading and comprehension skills. I enjoyed that these five illustrators got a spotlight, and that I got to learn more about their craft and process.

I was never a huge writer, but it has always been something that I have wanted to get into! I am actually taking a creative writing course this year and have found that writing is something that I actually really love to do. On top of the tools that my course has given me, I wanted to find more books that can help me build my skills as a writer. This article helped me find some books to add to my TBR that will help me become a better writer.

This quiz is so unique! Honestly, props to Ryan for the attention to detail here. I need to retake it, though; my sleuthing skills could’ve gotten a higher score, which means I need to read through my clues more carefully. But seriously, if you want a little game of murder mystery, take a 10-minute break to play detective with this Bookstr quiz!

Unveiling The Sensational History Behind Fiction’s Most Famous Pirates By M.A. Cole
Talk about an article with all of the voice that makes you want to learn more about pirate lore — this trivia piece does it all for me. I’m incredibly into pirates, from tropes to characters to the fantasy of it all, and this article covers all of these things and more. I both love learning about the bits of information about two of the infamous pirates that most people know but maybe didn’t know much of their backstories. This piece was informative and fun to read, and this is why it’s a definite fave of mine!

Undiscovered Horror Books That Will Make You Excited This October by Leo Castaneda-Pineda
I’ve yet to dive into the horror book genre, but this article caught my attention. Even though Halloween has passed, The Gateway in Apartment 8 seems incredibly intriguing. I love stories set in the 80s, especially ones involving mysteries and serial killers — it’s such a unique and thrilling vibe. This one is definitely being added to my TBR list!

Why We Love Queer Pirates: The Rise of LGBTQ+ Pirate Media by Lauren Nee
Lauren absolutely killed this opinion piece. Her writing was thorough, intriguing, and incredibly informative. Not only was this filled with her own thoughts, but she brought receipts to back it up. Her passion for the topic was infused in every word, and despite this being a beast of an article (6,032 words), I flew through it. Hands down a 2024 favorite!
