It’s been over 20 years since Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy kicked off with The Fellowship of the Ring. Since then, it’s inspired countless memes that are still hilarious today and continues to captivate audiences.
Not only has the film itself aged well, but so have some lines of dialogue that fans like me still quote on a daily basis. To celebrate our love for The Fellowship of the Ring, we’re revisiting 22 quotes from the movie that, dare we say, might be better than second breakfast.

Sam: If I take one more step, it’ll be the farthest away from home I’ve ever been.
Frodo: Come on, Sam. Remember what Bilbo used to say: “It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
Sam and Frodo, The Fellowship of the Ring

Aragorn: You’ve already had it.

[Aragorn turns and walks away]
Merry: I don’t think he knows about second breakfast, Pip.
Pippin: What about elevenses? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper? He knows about them, doesn’t he?
Merry: I wouldn’t count on it.
Aragorn, Pippin, and Merry, The Fellowship of the Ring

One does not simply walk into Mordor. Its Black Gates are guarded by more than just Orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep, and the Great Eye is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire and ash and dust, the very air you breathe is a poisonous fume. Not with ten thousand men could you do this. It is folly.
Boromir to the Council of Elrond, The Fellowship of the Ring
8.
Anyways, you need people of intelligence on this sort of… mission… quest… thing.

Frodo: I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.
Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you were also meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought.
