If there is one thing that the media has gotten right, it’s that dogs are the best friends anyone could ever ask for! We love the fictional pups almost as much as the ones that cuddle with us while we watch a movie or read a book. From solving mysteries to traversing magical lands, we love the bond between fictional characters and their four-legged companions and the adventures that ensue. Snoopy
The first pup on this list has to be the world’s most famous (and possibly oldest) beagle! Since Snoopy’s first appearance back in 1950, the witty, imaginative dog has appeared in countless comic strips, television specials, movies, and even the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. While his grandiose and atypical interests like writing “the great American novel,” collecting art, and reading War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy set him apart from other dogs, Snoopy’s canine qualities shine through in his love for food and loyalty to his owner. The beagle constantly teases Charlie Brown, and Charlie Brown gets annoyed with his dog’s laziness, but deep down, the two truly love each other! Toto
All of the characters in The Wizard of Oz have unique personalities, including Dorothy’s dog Toto. The small brown cairn terrier is Dorthy’s source of happiness on the barren farm. Throughout the film, Toto sticks by Dorothy’s side as they journey back to Kansas. Who better to get sucked into a tornado and transported to a magical land with than your dog? These two make an iconic duo and demonstrate just how special the bonds between humans and pups truly are.
Scooby-Doo
Scooby-Doo, like many on this list, is not your average dog. Scooby-Doo is a clumsy, amateur detective who solves mysteries alongside the Mystery Inc. group. While Scooby-Doo is friends with the whole gang, he has a particular attachment to Shaggy. Whether they are eating Supper Shaggy Sandwiches or taking transformation potions, the two are inseparable. Their cowardly and comical personalities are so similar that they seem to share a brain cell. Bruiser
They say dogs are man’s best friend, but this dog is a valley girl’s fashionable bestie. Bruiser from Legally Blonde is a confident chihuahua who is always styled to match his chic owner, Elle Woods. Bruiser (whose name is Underdog in the book) is there for Elle during her hardest times and helps her overcome challenges like being dumped or surviving law school. Elle and Bruiser are two peas in a pod who’ve brought joy and laughter to audiences worldwide.
Zero
Regular, living dogs are cool and all, but a ghost dog made of a white sheet with a glowing jack-o’-lantern for a nose? That’s extra cool! Zero is Jack Skellington’s loyal pet in The Nightmare Before Christmas. Despite his magical appearance, Zero has all the lovely canine qualities; He loves a good game of fetch and constantly cares for his owner, especially when Jack’s obsession with Christmas begins to spiral. Since the film came out, Zero has become a fan favorite character and has even had his own manga series, Zero’s Journey!
Krypto
It’s a bird… It’s a plane… It’s a dog? Krypto is Superman’s faithful and chaotic companion. He uses his special powers and super intelligence to help Superman fight crime. While there are many variations and storylines, most of them have one thing in common: Superman and Krypto make a great team! Clifford
Clifford is an abnormally large, red dog with a heart of gold! Despite his large size, he is sweet, gentle, and friendly, demonstrating that our differences only make us more special. As Clifford and his owner, Emily, embark on entertaining journeys, the two display a lot of love and care for each other. Emily and Clifford have appeared in many books, a few animated series, and even a movie!
