You always hear of FairyLoot or OwlCrate for adult readers…but what about children? Looks like there are a lot of options for children as well! Book subscription boxes have taken over the literary world for nearly 100 years — Book of the Month was founded in 1926 and is still thriving today. Although, what about children’s book boxes? Children love to read just as much — if not more — than adults do. After sifting through the world web, I found some pretty amazing subscription boxes that any parent would be impressed by.
Ourshelves
As a colorful brand focusing on three different age groups, this box highlights under-represented communities in children’s literature today. They notably showcase books that feature “racially and ethnically diverse, LGBTQ+, disabled, feminist, and other characters and families.” You can also choose from the three thematically fun age groups: Sunshine Box (ages 0-2), Rainbow Box (ages 2-5), and Treehouse Box (ages 5-8). This quarterly subscription lets you choose whether you want three books or just one sent each time. Choosing the right box can be hard, but if you wish to read books featuring under-represented communities, I highly suggest this one!
Literati
Tailoring each box to your little reader is Literati’s specialty. As a monthly box, it not only focuses on books but also some little goodies to compliment them. Regardless of the many different age groups they have, every age receives five books chosen by the Literati team. If you want a wide yet specified subscription for your growing child, this is the one for you. The overall groups range from Babies & Toddlers, Preschool-2nd Grade, 3rd-5th Grade, and 6th-8th Grade. In other words, ages 0-14. Literati allows your child to grow with these books past childhood and into their young teenage years!
Tiny Humans Read
Tiny Humans Read takes a hands-off approach where parents decide what books they want their children to read. Instead, this book subscription focuses more on the medium of the books in correlation with age. They offer three different boxes: The Board Book Box (ages 0-3), The Picture Book Box (ages 3-8), and The Sibling Box (for households with more than one child). With a specialty in board and picture books, parents get to choose 3 new books each month unless they choose The Sibling Box, which gives the option of two picture books and two board books. This is a great box subscription if you have more than one child!
Reading Box Bug
A family-owned business as an independent children’s bookstore, the Reading Box Bug sounds about the most welcoming place for parents and children alike. They meet and work with children’s book authors, children at local schools, and parents in-store to find what books resonate with children of different age groups. Their curated boxes are their only non-personalized boxes, including three books with concepts, rhyme, and shorter stories. On the other hand, their personalized boxes stress the child’s needs and interests. The personalized boxes range from Read to Me (ages 0-4), Early Reader (ages 5-8), and Reader (ages 8-13). Get this box if you want personalized boxes for you and your child’s needs!
Bookroo
Perhaps one of the most popular websites for children’s book subscriptions, these monthly boxes are designed as part of a book club — each book club corresponds to your child’s age group. The book clubs range from Board Book Club (ages 0-3), Picture Book Club (ages 3-6), Junior Chapter Book Club (ages 7-10), and Middle-Grade Book Club (ages 9-12). Each club gets two books except for the Board Book Club, which gets three! This book subscription is for parents who do not want to doubt their subscription.
These book box subscriptions are great for encouraging children to read more! I’m even tempted to get one because they are the cutest.
