11 Raunchy Romance Books Releasing In August For Your Reading Pleasure

To read raunchy romance books during Romance Awareness Month or to not read risqué recs from the resident romance redneck at Bookstr– that is the question.

Book Culture Bookish Trends New Release Opinions Recommendations Romance

The line between what the normal reader would consider a spicy or risqué romance and erotica are slowly but steadily blurring to a point of indisctinction. Are we mad? Not particularly. These authors are clinging to that sliver of a plot in these books that continue to qualify them as romance and not erotica. However, they are flirting with the damned and honestly I couldn’t be happier. It just makes for interesting reading, don’t you think? Here are eleven raunchy romances to celebrate Romance Awareness month this August!

This is a collection of romances recommended for those over the age of 18. Please read all content and trigger warnings (if provided) before reading a new raunchy romance. These authors are not responsible for your media consumption.

Cliche? Yeah I know her. I know her too well. Between the Flames by A.R. Rose knows her too, admittedly! Look I’m immediately drawn into overly cliched works, I mean I’m a fan fiction girly (it’s in our DNA). So this second chance romance that features the popular jock and nerdy girl is shouting my name from across the store. Also, I’m easily influenced by TikTok videos on my FYP, and Miss Girl over here just so happened to pop up. I’m currently sprinting towards the romance section.

Always the One for Me

Carrie Ann Ryan

Okay so in Always the One for Me by Carrie Ann Ryan, our main love interest was in the military… as were his five brothers who also get their own books! Normally I wouldn’t be drawn into a storyline that involves such a man– oh my gosh, that’s a damn lie. No, I live for these because it’s like all the fictional traits we love from our love interests are dialed up to eleven. The same why I love those motorcycle club romances? Or the mafia ones… y’all. I need to get off the Internet and touch grass or something.

The Reckless Union

Monica Murphy

Release Date: August 16

Three part series about arranged marriages with overprotective alpha men that I would (probably) be unattracted to in real life because in reality they’re a walking red flag? Sign me up. Look the synopsis is from our main man’s POV which bodes very (very, very, very) well for this book. I’m always down for a dual POV book, but one that’s primarily in his and he was written by a woman? So many ticks in the pros column for The Reckless Union by Monica Murphy.

The Sky at Night

Samantha Lovelock

Release Date: August 16

Rockstar romance? I’m a sucker for that alliteration, maybe y’all haven’t noticed– resident romance redneck anyone? Again, I’m easily influenced by little excerpts that I find on TikTok and this was yet another that caught my eye. Maybe it’s my fascination with rockers (and current obsession with Eddie Munson) but I’m very much intrigued by The Sky at Night by Samantha Lovelock. Not only the rockstar aspect, but the FMC is a firecraker who doesn’t take the MMC’s shit!

One Night with the Duke

Regency era romances just hit different for me. I was defintely forced into my love for them by my roommate, shoutout to Hannah, she’s a real one. She was obsessed with the Bridgerton series and now anytime either one of us finds a regency era romance we send like chapter by chapter updates on what’s going on. I’m more than positive One Night with the Duke by Jodi Ellen Malpas will be no different. The trap has been successfully laid and the victims will arrive shortly. It’s me, I’m victims.

A Duel with the Vampire Lord

Elise Kova

Release Date: August 18

Y’all remember that fae romance we were all fangirling over during 2020? Whoa that was way too broad. It was the one with the elf king. Still too broad? Well, it’s the first of the Married to Magic trilogy, and A Duel with the Vampire Lord by Elise Kova is the final book! For some reason I’m drawn to the books in which the MMC falls first and then would burn down the world for his SO– perhaps this is something I should be discussing with a therapist… we aren’t going to go there. Yeah so if y’all see me absolutely demolishing A Duel with the Vampire Lord within two days… just mind your business.

The Consigliere

Serena Akeroyd

Release Date: August 18

Cover of "The Consigliere" by Serena Akeroyd

Possessive mafia man? Yeah okay, I’ll bite. I sometimes wonder if the real members of the mafia are disappointed by how they’re portrayed in romance books. The same with MC romances… are we just way off base? Please note that this isn’t me inviting the mafia to respond… but if you don’t I’m just going to assume we’re pretty much hitting home. The Consigliere by Serena Akeroyd is the first of a duology within a series, but don’t worry because you don’t have to wait too long for the second half to come out! The Oracle releases August 25 to complete Aurora and Hunter’s story.

Mercy’s Angel

E.C. Land

Release Date: August 19

Cover of "Mercy's Angel" by E.C. Land, USA Today bestselling author

romance, books, romance awareness month, raunchy, august, release

Son of Anarchy really sunk its hooks into the romance community when it first came out and you won’t be hearing any complaints from my end. These books are really just feeding into my love of men on motorcycles and I can’t be sure if that’s actually a good thing or not. I’ve found that there’s usually not a whole lot of variation between the plotlines of them, but I like that. It’s a comfort thing like rewatching the same movie or TV show over and over again is soothing for anxiety, yeah it’s like that. So I’ll definitely be enjoying Mercy’s Angel by E.C. Land (and all the other books in the Satan’s Keepers MC series).

My Fake Fiancé

Piper Rayne

Release Date: August 23

Cover of "My Fake Fiancé" by Piper Rayne, USA Today bestselling author

romance, books, romance awareness month, raunchy, august, release
cr. Amazon

We all know by now that I’m feral for the fake relationship trope in romance books (or basically any cliche romance trope that you can think of… I’m obsessed). In My Fake Fiancé by Piper Rayne, we’re in Alaska, she’s running an inn, and he’s a wayward traveler that comes in every once in a while. Nothing ever happens between the two of them because she’s not the “one night stand typa gal,” but she is the kind to pretend to be engaged to help him end a family feud? I mean, hey, if I was propositioned with something like that I would probably say yes too. If not to just relieve the ever-loving tension that is so clearly there between the two of us.

Never Look Back

A.L. Jackson

Release Date: August 30

Cover of "Never Look Back" by A.L. Jackson, New York Times bestselling author

cr. Amazon

romance, books, romance awareness month, raunchy, august, release

Enemies to lovers and he’s saving her from a loveless relationship with a horrific husband? And he’s obsessed with her? Y’all know the drill. Another tick in the pro column of Never Look Back by A.L. Jackson is from Aster and Logan knowing each other from their childhood. I can’t get over it, you guys. Is there a bit of a power dynamic difference? Yes, but I’m choosing to overlook that. I just know this is going to be one of the books that keep me up at night because I’m rereading it.

After We Fall

J.H. Croix

Release Date: August 30

Cover of "After We Fall" by J.H. Croix, USA Today bestselling author

cr. Amazon

romance, books, romance awareness month, raunchy, august, release

“Friends with benefits, but with a time limit.” I’ve read enough romance (and fan fiction) to know that situations like this never end how they were originally supposed to. And with the first half of this synopsis being a checklist of things: roommates, coworkers, best friend’s younger sister, off limits? I was already clicking pre-order with the first checkmark. And you know I don’t talk about books that don’t feature a HEA, so After We Fall by J.H. Croix is going to be everything I want and more.

After years of reading books and years of self-therapy, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s healthy to separate myself from reality when I’m reading because, in the end, these are fictional characters in completely fictional situations. Do I think that some of these situations could possibly happen in real life? Maybe. I hope that the vast majority of them don’t because they could be extremely detrimental to those involved, but to each their own I guess?
