It turns out August is the new June! After months of radio silence, we have finally gotten some news about the upcoming adaptation of Casey McQuiston’s Red, White, and Royal Blue and we here at Bookstr couldn’t be more excited!

The official Twitter and Instagram accounts for the film tweeted out the first poster for the film along with the release date. The film will be released on August 11th and will be released on Prime Video.

Red, White, and Royal Blue Synopsis

For those who don’t know what the novel is about, Alex Claremont-Diaz is the First Son of the President of the United States. While attending the wedding of the heir to the British throne, he causes a scene with Henry, the Prince of England, the heir’s brother, and Alex’s nemesis. To fix the bad press they’re getting, the two have to pretend to be best friends. As the two begin to spend time together, a friendship and other more romantic feelings begin to blossom all amidst the President’s re-election campaign and the quest to turn Texas Blue.

The film is directed and written by newcomer and Tony Award winner Matthew López. It stars Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitizine as Alex and Henry respectively. Uma Thurman plays Alex’s mom President Ellen Claremont. The cast also includes Stephen Fry, Rachel Hilson, Sarah Shahi, Clifton Collins Jr., Aneesh Sheth, Polo Morin, Ellie Bamber, Ahmed Elhaj, Akshay Khanna, Sharon D Clarke, Thomas Flynn, and Malcolm Atobrah.

While I would have liked a trailer to go along with the poster, I have to praise the creativity with the socks and the posing. As someone who doesn’t love the original cover (I don’t like cartoony book covers), I can fully say I would love for this to be a tie-in cover! This is one of the movies I’m looking forward to most this year and you best believe that I will be seated on August 11th.
