As of February 2nd, the fourth installment of the hit YA graphic novel Heartstopper reached number fifteen on the New York Times bestseller list for graphic books and manga. 2022 has started off with a bang for Alice Oseman’s LGBTQ+ series, beginning with another bestselling book.

Originally a Tumblr webcomic, Heartstopper has since flourished into a multinational success. The series tells the story of anxious and openly gay Charlie, and cheerful rugby player Nick, as they meet and fall in love at their grammar school in Britain. This latest volume receiving high praise is, however, only the first of a number of achievements yet to come throughout the next year for the YA series.

The Heartstopper Yearbook

Besides the fourth volume of the series, which dropped in the U.S. on December 7th, 2021, another all-new book outside the main series is coming to shelves on October 13th, 2022. The Heartstopper Yearbook will be a full-color companion book, filled with bonus content to supplement the main series. A cartoon version of Alice Oseman narrates and guides the reader through the book’s content, some of which include new illustrations and art, character profiles and trivia, and an exclusive minicomic.

New Netflix Adaptation

Though the exact release date is unknown, nearly every detail of the Netflix adaptation has been released so far. Production on Heartstopper the series began in April 2021 and wrapped up filming in June of the same year, and is expected to be released on Netflix sometime in 2022, though it is still unspecified. The full cast list has been released as well, with Joe Locke and Kit Conner taking on the roles of Charlie and Nick. The supporting cast of secondary characters is: William Gao, Yasmin Finney, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Sebastian Croft, Cormac Hyde-Corrin, Rhea Norwood, Tobie Donovan, Jenny Walser, Fisayo Akinade, Chetna Pandya, and Alan Turkington. The series is set to run for eight episodes, running at half an hour an episode.

The Fifth Installment

The fifth volume of Heartstopper has also been announced to be published on February 2nd, 2023. This final chapter of the Heartstopper series looks to be the concluding item in a yearlong span of accomplishments for the YA series. Though very little is known about the graphic novel itself (not even a cover image has been released) fans can be certain of the arrival of the final chapter within almost exactly a year from now.
