Julia Whelan’s popular novel, My Oxford Year, is being adapted into a Netflix film starring Purple Heart’s Sofia Carson and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’s Corey Mylchreest. Temple Hill Entertainment is producing the film with Iain Morris as the director.
This will be Carson’s fourth movie with Netflix following Purple Hearts, Carry-On, and The Life List, while Mylchreest received notable fame starring in the Bridgerton universe’s Queen Charlotte as young King George. Mylchreest also appeared in Netflix’s The Sandman.

The story follows Ella Durran, an American who wishes to study at Oxford. At 24, that wish finally comes true when she receives a scholarship to attend. Now she has a job working on the political campaign for a rising presidential candidate. Ella promises to continue working remotely and return to DC at the end of the year, but things take a turn when she runs into Jamie Davenport.
Even though Ella has her dreams and life mapped out, Jamie makes her realize that she might not have it all figured out. Her promised year in Oxford begins to wind down quickly, and soon she will be forced to decide whether to stay or leave.

The film is written by Allison Burnett, the writer of Autumn in New York, and is based on the bestselling novel by Julia Whelan. No release date has yet been set, and not much information is available about this upcoming project, but Netflix has had recent success with other Rom-Coms, proving My Oxford Year is in good hands.
Purple Hearts was a very popular release for Netflix in 2022 and starred Sofia Carson and Nicholas Galitzine, the lead actor from The Idea of You. Purple Hearts debuted at number one globally in 2022 and made history as being one of Netflix’s most-watched movies of all time. The soundtrack from the movie also made history as Netflix’s most streamed soundtrack of all time. Carson served as an executive producer and co-wrote and performed the original soundtrack.
With high ratings and positive reviews, there will be excited fans anticipating the release date for this upcoming film. Carson and Mylchreest are both very well-known actors and already have fans talking about My Oxford Year, especially fans of popular romance films on Netflix.
