What are people saying?
It is no secret Cavill loved playing the monster fighting Witcher in Netflix’s adaptation of Sapkowski’s books. Since he is a huge fan of the story and works hard to accurately portray the character, Cavill constantly pushed for the show to stay as true as possible. According to Digital Spy, the actor pushed to change his character in Season 2.
“This season, I really wanted to make sure that we represented the book’s Geralt more accurately, and that we saw him speak more. I pushed really, really hard for that.”Henry Cavill, Total Film
Sci-Fi & Fantasy Gazette reported that many of the writer’s on the show disliked the books and games, leading to mockery of the original material. They continued by noting:
“The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has previously said she intentionally avoided hiring those who were too familiar with the books and games. That approach doesn’t seem to have paid off so far, as there are many elements of the show that have been criticised by fans for the way it’s adapted certain characters and moments.”Sci-Fi & Fantasy Gazette
Could mockery and dislike of the original story on set have led to Cavill’s exit? While we won’t know for sure, we all will toss our last coin to Cavill as he finishes his role as Geralt in Season 3.
