Robert Downey Jr (RDJ) may be best known for his roles as the beloved Iron Man in the Marvel Universe and his portrayal of the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes. Now, he’s stepping into the non-fiction world with the release of his new book, Cool Food: Erasing Your Carbon Footprint One Bite at a Time. RDJ teams up with environmental author Thomas Kostigen to introduce a new and accessible way to decrease our carbon footprints. Although there is no release day yet, we are curious as to what innovations RDJ has come up with to help us stop the overgrowing issue of climate change.

A Dynamic Climate Duo

The two-time Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner is re-focusing our attention on the future of our climate. According to Deadline, Downey reached a deal with Blackstone Publishing for his first-ever non-fiction book, Cool Food: Erasing Your Carbon Footprint One Bite at a Time. Although there is no set release date, we do know that the book will provide readers “with an approachable roadmap with practical steps to reduce our carbon footprint—and, with brilliant and witty Downey, Jr. and Kostigen at the helm, readers are sure to have a lot of fun as they learn, too.

After Robert Downey Jr’s success in the Marvel Franchise, he ventured into one of the world’s biggest crises, climate change. Some may also be surprised to learn that RDJ founded The FootPrint Coalition (FPC) in 2019. The Footprint Coalition is a business and non-profit organization that primarily focuses on the adoption and scaling of sustainable technologies. According to Blackstone Publishing, Thomas Kostigen has also been at the forefront of the climate change movement for the past two decades. Kostigen’s works are well-known in the environmental world as he is a New York Times bestselling author and award-winning National Geographic writer.

Most recently, Penguin Random House published his book called Hacking Planet Earth: How Geoengineering Can Help Us Reimagine the Future. Kostigen wrote several non-fiction books on vital topics regarding our environment and social issues. His most notable works include The Green Book: The Everyday Guide to Saving the Planet One Simple Step at a Time and You Are Here: Exposing the Vital Links Between What We Do and What That Does to The Planet. This dynamic duo of RDJ and Kostigen will be a beneficial imprint in saving our climate or the future of what we hope it will be.

Cool Food: Erasing Your Carbon Footprint One Bite at a Time

The biggest question on our minds is how will this book teach us how to erase or decrease our carbon footprint? Deadline reports that the book will give readers specific examples to create a carbon-free diet while also depicting the authors’ own take on their cool food paradigm. Additionally, RDJ and Kostigen “will walk readers through the adventures they embarked on that unfold a 360º story about where these foods are grown and sold…” (Deadline). The more conscious we are about the food’s we consume and how they get to us, the more we’re able to lower our carbon footprint.

We often forget about the carbon emissions released from transporting food through cars, airplanes, ships, trains, etc. Conscious decisions about the food we eat can be a step in the right direction in lowering our carbon footprint. However, one person eating less chicken or cow may not do as much for the environment as a millionaire stopping from flying a private jet everywhere. When it comes to climate change, it’s important to remember that accessibility is everything. RDJ and Kostigen consider this when they describe the roadmap as an accessible approach to making a difference. However, we’ll have to see just how inclusive and responsible our authors are with climate change. We, as readers, look forward to learning more about ways we can help the environment.

Our Last Bite

We are glad to see important issues like climate change being brought to the forefront as it has been an ongoing issue for years. After all, Earth is the only planet we’ve got, and we need to treat it with respect. We look forward to hearing more about the release of Robert Downey Jr’s first non-fiction book, Cool Food: Erasing Your Carbon Footprint One Bite at a Time. It’s important to stay hopeful in uncertain times, and we hope RDJ and Thomas Kostigen can help get us on track in saving our environment. We’re bettering the planet with one conscious bite of food at a time.
