It’s Britney’s Book

According to Variety, Britney Spears has landed a huge book deal after an intense bidding war with major publishing houses. This memoir comes as no surprise. Besides being one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, Britney is ready to have her voice back after nearly 14 years without it. Since being freed from the conservatorship that controlled her life and money back in November 2021, her family will finally take a back seat.

Her tell-all memoir resides with Simon and Schuster with a deal, reported by Page Six, to be as big as $15 million. It is likely that the tell-all memoir will primarily focus on Britney’s early stardom, music career, and the relationships within her family. Spears has been in the public eye for most of her life, and is only now gaining back control over the narrative.

Finding Her Voice

Britney is finding her way back to the beginning but with her voice front and center this time. The news of her tell-all comes shortly after the release of Britney’s younger sister Jaime Lynn’s memoir, Things I Should Have Said. Jaime Lynn’s memoir has detailed accounts of the sisters’ upbringing and her mental struggles as a teen mom. However, she sheds an unsympathetic light on Britney’s mental health issues. Instead of defending her sister, Jaime has pushed the narrative that the conservatorship was for Britney’s own good.

Understandably, Britney has taken that to heart in more ways than one. She has made many posts on Instagram about how she felt unfairly treated during the conservatorship. Britney has also pointed out the bizarre timing of her sister’s memoir. It was published in the middle of her conservatorship battle, ranking it a National Best Seller.

Facing Her Toughest Battle

In the battle over her conservatorship, Britney faced many deniers. Many people that she once deemed close friends and family belittled her struggles and the emotional toll brought on by the media. Below is a quote from one of her statements to probate Judge Brenda Penny in Los Angeles during 2021. Britney wants to feel heard. This memoir will surely do just that.

The last time I spoke to you by just keeping the conservatorship going, and also keeping my dad in the loop, made me feel like I was dead — like I didn’t matter, like nothing had been done to me, like you thought I was lying or something. I’m telling you again, because I’m not lying. I want to feel heard. And I’m telling you this again, so maybe you can understand the depth and the degree and the damage that they did to me back then.

Undoubtedly, the tell-all will reveal many heartbreaking moments from Britney’s life. Reading this statement from her conservatory case alone, we can see how traumatizing her experiences have been. However, considering the triumph of fans during the #FreeBritney movement, there may be a chance we see the rewarding sides of her life and career. Most importantly, it is rewarding to know that Britney got her voice back. Make some room in your bookshelf for a memoir that no one will be able to stop talking about.
