Pairing Cake Flavors With Romance Books Based on the Covers

Too many sweets is surely not a bad thing, so you can definitely have your cake and eat it too with these cake flavors and romance book pairings.

Book Culture Food & Wine Lifestyle On This Day Recommendations Romance

They always say don’t judge a book by its cover, but I will today just for the fun of it. If there’s one thing both cakes and romance books have in common, it’s sweetness. If you have a sweet tooth, prepare yourself for this sweet overload of cake flavors and romance book recommendations.

So let’s match cake flavors to some romance books solely based on the aesthetics and colors of their book covers.

1. Twisted Games – Vanilla Cake

Rhys Larsen is an elite bodyguard with only two rules: protect his clients at all costs and do not get emotionally involved. He always follows those rules until Bridget von Ascheberg, the most fiery, stubborn princess he’s ever met. But as they spend more time together, she breaks down his walls, and he can no longer deny his feelings for her.

Princess Bridget desperately dreams of a life where she is able to freely live and love how she wants. Forced into a new role for the throne she doesn’t want, she also has to deal with a marriage solely for the purposes of politics. As she deals with it all, she must hide her desires for a man she cannot have.

The cover of Twisted Games is gorgeous. The royal elements along with the white and gold make it look so elegant and classy. And that is what vanilla cake is; it’s a classic cake flavor. You can never go wrong with a vanilla cake just like you can never go wrong with a forbidden romance story.

2. In the Weeds – Chocolate Cake

Beckett can’t get Evelyn out of his head, especially after one weekend together. And to his surprise, he finds out she is an instafamous influencer after seeing her on his farm because of a social media contest. But he must move on when she disappears again.

Evelyn feels unhappy in both life and work, she is desperate to find and connect with something real so she returns to Lovelight Farms. It was the last time she remembered feeling happy. And it wasn’t the hot farmer she spent a weekend with that made her happy, it was definitely the town.

The In the Weeds cover is so pretty and I’m in love with the color palette. The richness in chocolate cake has you almost always going back for more and that’s just the vibe I’m getting from the cover of this second chance romance book.

3. A Merry Little Meet Cute – Ice Cream Cake

Bee Hobbes (aka Bianca) is a plus-size adult film star. Her career is successful, she has a loyal following, and two supportive moms. She’s pretty content with her life. Then, she is cast in a family-friendly Christmas movie, so she has to keep her work as Bianca under wraps. Easier said than done except things complicate when her co-star is Nolan Shaw, an ex-boy band member in desperate need of a career boost and her childhood crush.

Not to mention, he’s a very big fan of Bianca. Things between the two get steamy and they keep their new relationship hidden. But can they really keep it hidden from everyone especially when the reporter who damaged Nolan’s career starts snooping around Bee, the mysterious newcomer?

With ice cream cake, you get the best of both worlds with both cake and ice cream like you would with romance novels where you get both the sweet moments and steamy ones in A Merry Little Meet Cute. The wintery and Christmas-y cover and story are why I paired it with ice cream cake.

4. American Royalty – Red Velvet Cake

Rapper Danielle “Duchess” Nelson is so close to signing a record deal that will grant her control over her life. But her deal is on the line when an incident with a rising pop star goes viral. Now she must fix her image and reputation, or else she loses the deal.

Prince Jameson is a professor and royal who prefers to stay out of the public eye. But when Parliament questions the monarchy, the Queen is desperate for the positive press after her children are repeatedly involved in scandals. Therefore, Jameson is put in charge of a tribute concert for the Queen’s late husband. Who better to perform than the famous rapper, Duchess?

Realizing too late, Duchess is not the performer the Queen wanted but Jameson can’t help feeling drawn to her. Danielle desperately needs this exposure that could save her career, not to mention the attraction she feels toward Jameson.

The cover for American Royalty is absolutely stunning. The deep red background plus the red of Danielle dress on the cover reminds me of red velvet so much. Red Velvet cakes are known for their vibrant red shade and the red on this cover really makes it stand out with how gorgeous the characters look.

5. Sweethand – Cheesecake

Cherisse swore off dating anyone in the music industry, especially after her breakup with her cheating musician boyfriend. Instead, she’ll focus on her pastry chef career. And it doesn’t help that with her younger sister getting married, her mom’s matchmaking attempts intensified.

Keiran King is the most annoying man Cherisse knows, and she can’t seem to avoid him. He’s a close friend of her sister’s fiancé and the best man. They always seem to butt heads, but he can’t deny his crush on her. The wedding just seems to always throw them together. Will they survive the days leading to the wedding, or is this all a recipe for disaster?

I cannot get over the art style of the cover. It is too pretty. Now I know there’s a bit of a debate on whether or not cheesecake is a cake or a pie, but for this purpose, it’s a cake for now. The cover of Sweethand reminds me of cheesecake because of the couple’s pose. The pose, where Cherisse is feeding Keiran, is classic and cheesy just like cheesecake.

6. Battle Royal – Cupcake

When Sylvie Fairchild was a contestant on Operation Cake, she charmed viewers and the judges with her colorful and unique creations except for one judge. Dominic De Vere, the hottest pastry chef in London, was eager to vote her off the show after one creation went wrong. With her newfound fame, she opened a bakery, Sugar Fair.

Dominic is the King’s favorite baker. He is annoyed when he finds out Sylvie will be joining the judging panel for Operation Cake. Despite his dislike towards her, he can’t seem to stop thinking about her. However, they’re going head to head when they learn they’re both competing for the opportunity to bake a cake for Princess Rose’s wedding.

Honestly, Battle Royal reminds me of cupcakes because the characters on the cover are holding cupcakes (and I adore how the cover highlights the contrast between the two characters). Also, I feel like with most baking shows, cupcakes are primarily the first baked goods they’re baking in the competition.

7. Dream On – Funfetti Cake

Cass Walker wakes up after a car accident with memories of Devin, her boyfriend. But the problem is Devin doesn’t exist despite the memories of him feeling real. Even all the little details such as the exact shade of his coffee-brown eyes or how his favorite scarf feels. Even if she imagined him, she can’t stop thinking about him.

So imagine her surprise a year later when she runs into Devin, real and in the flesh, at a Cleveland flower shop. And to add to her shock, Devin believes her story and it sparks a real-life romance. Cass’s future seems perfect now that she is dating her dream man, and has a summer job lined up at a law firm. However, everything seems a little too perfect…

Funfetti cake is overall a fun cake flavor. And the plot for Dream On is interesting and sounds like a fun whirlwind of a romance. Also, the cover is colorful with splashes of multiple colors, just like a funfetti cake.

8. Fake It Till You Bake It – Strawberry Cake/Strawberry Shortcake

Jada works at the newest cupcake bakery, Sugar Blitz, after turning down a proposal on a reality dating show that has ruined her image. She works with Donovan Dell, the uptight owner and professional football player.

Their lives change when Jada and Donovan are accidentally reported to be in a relationship. They instead use this misunderstanding to help boost the struggling bakery as well as save Jada’s reputation. Their fake relationship may seem easy, but there’s always an unexpected ingredient in the recipe… love.

I am absolutely obsessed with this cover, it’s beautiful! It’s the perfect pairing with cakes because what else is sweeter than finding love in a bakery surrounded by sweets? The pink background of the cover stands out and just screams strawberry cake. But combined with the white title letters, it also screams strawberry shortcake.

9. What a Match – Carrot Cake

Gwen Gilmore knows precisely what she is looking for in a man. As someone who is recently single, Gwen doesn’t want to waste any time on mixed signals or lack of chemistry. She doesn’t want slow and unserious. Unfortunately, that’s how the dating scene is, so she needs help specifically from a matchmaker.

Anthony Woods is in love with his best friend’s sister (Gwen). He’s kept his distance but that distance becomes nonexistent when he moves into her house after some apartment problems. As they start connecting and getting to know each other more, Gwen notices the dream boyfriend she has in mind starts changing. He now resembles someone else, someone more like Anthony.

The ingredients used for carrot cake such as the spices remind me of autumn, not to mention the cake looks like the season in cake form. And so does the cover for What a Match. The gorgeous art style and aesthetics give off fall vibes, so it’s the perfect pairing with carrot cake.

10. Love & Other Natural Disasters – Lavender Cake

Who would’ve thought the ideal summer romance meant a fake relationship? Well, Nozomi Nagai surely didn’t until she met the most perfect girl, Willow. Recently going through a breakup and heartbroken, she asks Nozomi to pretend to be her girlfriend to make her ex jealous. Of course, she agrees.

Nozomi uses this as a chance to show Willow she’s better than a stand-in and hopes to turn their fake relationship into a real one. But soon, disaster strikes when all the lies pile up and her chance for love comes unexpectedly.

The art style is so pretty and based solely on the aesthetics of the cover, it reminds me of a lavender cake. The cake tastes exactly like the way lavender smells. The flavoring has to be subtle or it will end up being overpowering just like Nozomi’s schemes of love.

Books and cakes, there is no denying that they are truly the sweetest treats to love.
