Exciting news for anime fans and manga enthusiasts alike: Yuto Suzuki’s popular manga Sakamoto Days is reportedly being adapted into an anime series by Netflix, slated for release in 2024. This development is set to bring the beloved action-comedy series to a broader audience, expanding on Netflix’s anime catalog.

The Legendary Hitman

Rumors are that TMS Entertainment has been picked up to work on Sakatmoto Days. TMS is no stranger to the anime game, having animated mangas like Baki, Dr. Stone, and Lupin III. Fans are excited but nervous to see what the studio can cook up with Sakamoto Days. In 2023, Sakamoto Days made the best-selling manga list at number 17. Fans have been wanting an anime, and this might be the studio to make a faithful and good adaptation. However, these rumors are early, so a cast hasn’t been announced.

Sakamoto Days, serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump since November 2020, follows the story of Tao Sakamoto, a former legendary hitman. His unmatched skills and ruthless efficiency caused his name to strike fear in the hearts of criminals and admiration among fellow hitmen. However, Sakamoto fell in love and retired to live a normal life with his wife and daughter. Now he runs a small convenience store, gained a fair amount of weight, and has a gentler look.

Despite his best attempts to live a peaceful and normal life, Sakamoto’s past refuses to stay buried. Old rivals and dangerous enemies reappear, threatening his tranquility and putting his family at risk. With his latent skills and instincts as an assassin, Sakamoto maneuvers these threats with a blend of action-packed sequences and comedic moments, showcasing his ability as a legendary hitman through unexpected and humorous ways.

Fans have been wanting Sakamoto Days to receive the anime greenlight for a long time. While most are excited about Netflix choosing to pick it up and animate it, some are leery because of Netflix’s treatment of other animes. The only thing we can do now is wait and hope for the best.
