Hold on tight to your witch hats– AMC’s new series promises to be a wild ride. Let’s take a look at one of Anne Rice’s most complex characters in Mayfair Witches. Alexandra Daddario takes on the role of Rowan, as she experiences magic and chaos in the latest Anne Rice adaptation.

Anne Rice’s novel, along with AMC’s new series, shows us Dr. Rowan Fielding— a gifted neurosurgeon who is very familiar with uncovering clues others may not catch. Alexandra Daddario did an in-depth interview with Den of Geek magazine about the complexity of Rowan’s character.

Daddario tells Den of Geek magazine,

“It’s really about family and dysfunctional family at the end of the day. Then you add this dose of magic and take everything to a crazier place. This woman is really strong, empowered, and independent in her real life, but she is also a mess.

— Alexandra Daddario, Den of Geek

Den of Geek also spoke with Harry Hamlin, who plays Courtland Mayfair in the upcoming series, about his relationship with the character and his thoughts on the story.

“I didn’t find out my relationship with Rowan until I read episode seven… [The story is] very female-centric and empowering. Rice writes about these very powerful women who find their power, their inner strength, and that happens in this show.”

— Harry Hamlin, Den of Geek

Daddario concludes,

“Are these people good or evil. Quite frankly, neurosurgery is very witchlike to me.”

— Alexandra Daddario, Den of Geek

Mayfair Witches follows book one, The Witching Hour, in the trilogy by Anne Rice. The trilogy consists of The Witching Hour, Lasher, and Taltos. Rowan discovers she is a descendant of a long line of witches, which leads her to discover clues about who her family really is. Once she starts developing unexplained powers, things become chaotic.

AMC’s new series premieres January 8, 2023. The series consists of eight episodes and the first two premiere the same night. Following January 8, episodes premiere on a weekly basis on AMC+.
