** Warning: The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 1 spoilers ahead
After months of teasing, Amazon Prime Video has finally announced The Summer I Turned Pretty season two premiere date, and we’re already in love. It looks like we’re spending the entire summer with the cast because, on July 14th, Amazon Prime Video will drop the first three episodes, followed by new episodes weekly until the season finale on August 18. Season two is based on Jenny Han’s second book in the trilogy, It’s Not Summer Without You, but we can expect some deviation from page to screen as we did last season.
Jenny Han is a No. 1 New York Times best-selling author of the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and The Summer I Turned Pretty series. Her best-selling novels have been published in more than 30 languages and have been adapted into hit Netflix and Prime Video movies and series, not including her newest spinoff of the To All the Boys series, XO, Kitty.
Yesterday, Amazon Studios, wiip, and TSIP Producers blessed our social feeds with a behind-the-scenes video featuring Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, Rain Spencer, David Iacono, and Elsie Fisher, sitting together and discussing their summer plans when they receive a text from author and creator Jenny Han including the episode titles and release dates to Season 2.
Last season, we watched Belly (Lola Tung) get caught in a love triangle with her childhood best friends, Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), all while navigating the social season of Cousins Beach, and a surprise love interest, Cameron. Cam Cameron.
#TeamJeremiah or #TeamConrad?
If you’ve had the chance to read Jenny Han’s novels prior to the adaptation, you’ve had a chance to determine whether your #TeamJeremiah or #Team Conrad. Belly has given us a run for our money when it comes to the Fisher boys, and we don’t blame her. Just when we all thought things with Conrad were getting better and he was finally coming to his senses about his feelings, Jeremiah confesses his long-time crush on Belly during a romantic night swim under the stars, and things get messy quickly. It definitely didn’t feel like they were still just friends at this point.
Jeremiah fans were falling hard until lover boy, Conrad, swooped in, looking mighty handsome, and quite literally took our breath away. During the deb ball, when Jeremiah discovers that Conrad was keeping Susannah’s sickness a secret, he leaves Belly high and dry with no dance partner. But to no surprise, Conrad comes to the rescue in a swoon-worthy attempt to save the day and does it beautifully. Don’t we all wish someone would look at us like Conrad looks at Belly?
Fast forward to Belly setting her boundaries and speaking her mind. She finally tells Conrad how she feels and what she not only wants but needs, and he decides that she is what he needs AND wants. FINALLY.
Amazon Studios gave us a brief description of the upcoming season that has us itching to know more.
Belly used to count down the days until she could return to Cousins Beach, but with Conrad and Jeremiah fighting over her heart and the return of Susannah’s cancer, she’s not sure summer will ever be the same. When an unexpected visitor threatens the future of Susannah’s beloved house, Belly has to rally the gang to come together—and to decide once and for all where her heart lies.
