Jenny Han’s YA novel The Summer I Turned Pretty is currently being adapted into an Amazon television series. On Tuesday, Deadline revealed that Gavin Casalegno (Walker and The Vampire Diaries) has joined the cast and will play Jeremiah, “a popular, athletic, playful and easygoing character” who’s not only the “life of the party,” but also quite flirtatious and “magnetic.”
Also starring in The Summer I Turned Pretty is Lola Tung as Belly and Christopher Briney as Conrad Fisher. Belly was always seen as “gawky” and “awkward.” However, the summer she turns sixteen she starts “turning some heads” and everyone is adjusting to this striking change. Conrad Fisher is Belly’s longtime crush, and he seems to finally be noticing her now.
Deadline writes this “multigenerational” YA drama centers around a love triangle between one girl and two brothers, the dynamic, forever-evolving relationship between mothers and their children, and the “enduring power” of female friendships. This “coming-of-age” story encapsulates the experiences of first loves, heartbreaks, and the “magic of that one perfect summer.”
Jenny Han is also the author of the beloved To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before books. She will serve as the series showrunner alongside Gabrielle Stanton. Han and Stanton will also executive produce with Karen Rosenfelt, Nne Ebong, Hope Hartman, and Paul Lee.
