According to Rolling Stone, the book is inspired by her childhood. She revealed in her memoir how her family didn’t have much growing up just as Little Mariah does not as well. However, her mother tried to make Christmas special. She shared how she received an orange-wrapped gift once just so there was a gift for her to unwrap. It seems she grew up wishing for more holiday joy for her family during Christmas. Therefore, Carey wants to bring a more hopeful, cheerful perspective to her story.
