The news is out! Ryan Reynolds announced on his social media that Hugh Jackman will be returning as Wolverine in his upcoming movie, Deadpool 3. We also have an official release date. You can expect the film September 6, 2024.
We know. 2024 is a long time to wait, but good things take time. Reynolds released a video on his social media profiles announcing the news. He admits to working on the next Deadpool film for a good bit of time now.
“It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside…” Reynolds says in the video. He did come up with one idea, though. He continues, “Hey, Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time?” as Hugh Jackman walks behind him to which Jackman responds, “Yeah, sure, Ryan.”
The ending of the video plays Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” with the subtitles reading “I will always love Hugh.” The teaser ends with “Coming Hughn.” A very clever and fitting announcement for a Deadpool movie if you ask me. You probably have just as many questions as we do. Luckily, Reynolds posted this very informative video with Hugh Jackman to answer all of our questions!
Not much has been released about the timeline or how Wolverine will be alive as you can see. The last we saw of Wolverine was in 2016 where he died at the end of Logan. There are a lot of unanswered questions, but with a release date two years from now, I’m sure all of our questions will get answered very creatively within time.
What Can We Expect From Deadpool 3?
We do, however, know the film is in good hands! Deadpool 3 will be directed by Shawn Levy. Levy previously worked on Free Guy and The Adam Project with Reynolds. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who worked on the first two films, will also join for the third. While not much of the cast is released, IMDb does have T.J. Miller and Leslie Uggams listed. Of course, Reynolds will return as Wade Wilson (Deadpool) and somehow Hugh Jackman as Wolverine! It isn’t new for Deadpool to break the fourth wall, so I’m sure they are cooking up something great.
With Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox, Deadpool 3 will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but don’t worry, Reese confirmed Deadpool 3 will keep its usual R-rating even within the MCU.
It will be a few years until we get Deadpool 3 in theaters, but you can watch Deadpool and Deadpool 2 on Disney+ right now!
