Let’s get to talking with our latest Bookstagrammer of the Week, Megan of @the.broke.bibliomaniac! I’ve got to be honest, I’m identifying with your Instagram handle. Just from looking at your page, it’s clear that reading is an obvious passion of yours.

When did you first get into reading?

So about a year ago, I was NOT a reader. But, my sister convinced me to listen to The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson and I was immediately hooked! Somehow I ended up finding Bookstagram and my collection of books went from 0 to over 300 books!

That’s insane! Over that time reading, you must have read a few books that stuck with you more than the rest.

What book has impacted you the most and why?

The Way of Kings! Book one of The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. It’s the first book that got me into reading and it changed me for the better! There is so much wisdom I learned and each character brought out a different version of myself. I cherish this book! It helped me find this wonderful community!

Honestly, I’m loving how your feed is looking right now. There’s so many props and saturated colors that I’m drawn in to your content!

Your account is exuding a warm and Christmas-y vibe! What is it about Christmas that you love so much?

Christmas is just so perfect! It’s cozy and fun and it truly is the happiest time of the year for me! There are so many things you can do with it as well! From baking/decorating cookies, to drinking hot chocolate and watching Christmas movies, or (my personal favorite) watching your friends and family open the gifts you got them! It’s really a time for my family to come together and I love that!

It’s clear that you’re a big fan of Christmas! So do you have any specific holiday traditions that you look forward to every year?

Some favorite holiday traditions we have is watching classic Christmas movies together while eating some of my dad’s amazing shortbread cookies he makes! Our favorite movie is A Christmas Story and we usually watch that on Christmas Day! It’s so perfect!

My family kind of does that, expect we swap A Christmas Story for National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation! Now picture this, you have the power to recommend everyone one book that they should read during the holiday season.

What book are you recommending for us to read?

I always recommend The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe! It has such a fun Christmassy vibe! While the story itself isn’t about Christmas, Santa does make an appearance! I haven’t read many holiday-themed books so there are probably some great ones out there! But I love the world of Narnia and it’s a fun book to read!

Our next few questions have to do with the closing of the year. Personally, I’m not prepared for the year to end. I feel like it just started!

Do you have a list of books that you’re hoping to read before the end of the year?

Oooooh yes! I hope to finish The Starless Sea, the Off-Campus series, The Foxhole Court series, Cursed, and Strange the Dreamer!

And of course, the new year means new resolutions that I probably won’t be able to hold fast to!

Do you have any bookish goals that you’re hoping to achieve in 2023?

Yes! Some bookish goal of mine for 2023 is to try and read 100 books! In 2022 I read 71 books and passed my goal of 50! So fingers crossed! I’ve already achieved some pretty big personal goals this year, by becoming Bookstagram reps for some book box/candle companies! I’ve even been contacted by publishers and authors that have asked me to read their books! I already am living the dream! But maybe next year, I can get to 5 thousand followers!

Finally, our time with Megan is coming to a close. So we’d love to end this interview with a fun fact about yourself!

I first watched The Lord of The Rings when I was seven years old! It was my first experience with fantasy and continues to be a favorite! My family and I probably watch it at least three times a year! In fact, I was so enamored with LOTR, that when I was younger and my sister and I got four rats for Christmas, we named them Frodo, Pippin, Merry, and Sam!
