When the opportunity opens up, it’s a time to destress by doing our favorite activities. If you’re like me, you’ll want to do nothing but lie on your couch or bed and read. For book lovers, this is a special treat one can give to themselves. Reading our favorite novels with some music in the background sets a comforting mood. While you can do that, what if there were other ways to enjoy your free day? Don’t worry; you’ll still be reading. Nothing here will tear you apart from your precious books. Here are some helpful tips to bring the fullest to your reading experience.
Switch Up the Genre

If you have a comfort genre like fantasy or horror, why not switch it up and go for a new genre? It’ll spice up your day with the unknown. Never read a sci-fi book; take the time to explore and pick a book that interests you. If you like psychological books, why not take it easy with some slice of life? Pick something that’s the opposite of your favorite genre. You might end up liking it. If not, at least you’ve expanded your horizons.
Visit Your Local Library

Take the time of your day to head to your local library and explore what it has to offer. From writing classes to Friday movie nights, the library is a place that gives opportunities for growth and resources. There might be a program you exclusively need or want to strive in. It’s amazing to know your library has come up with many activities for the community to enjoy and participate in. So, while you check out your new book discoveries, pay attention to the bulletin board with the many notices and advertisements and appreciate the effort your library makes.
Enjoy Your Favorite Drink

No reading is complete without a drink by your side. Whether it’s tea, coffee, or something else, make your favorite drink and curl yourself with your book. Or, to make it more enticing, journey to your nearest coffee shop and immerse yourself in the ambiance in real-time as you sit amidst the tapping of computers and gentle jazz music of the cafe. There’s something to drinking and reading amongst the busy folk in their state of focus. As long as you get to enjoy your drink, everything is good.
Buy New Books

If you were looking for an excuse to self-indulge in a spending spree, this is your excuse. At Bookstr, we like to say, “At least it isn’t drugs.” So take comfort in this fact and spend your hard-earned money on all the books your heart desires. If it gets too much from all the options and reading possibilities that you can’t decide what to get, get one you’ve been eyeing for a while and make a list of TBR books for next time. Don’t worry the bookstore will always be there (unless it one day decides to close).
Put The Phone Down

This one might be hard to do, but to fully embrace the fictional escape your book provides, it’s best to put the phone down. Keep it at a distance so as not to grab it impulsively, like on a coffee table or the other side of the couch. If you have to, keep it on vibrate or put a special ringtone for those you know are close to you. That way, you can contently read without any interruptions. You can do it! It takes a bit of focus, but it’s worth it to read.
Begin to Writing

Like any book lover, we’d like to write our own stories. Our imagination runs high from all the books we read, and we wonder if we could also write amazingly like our favorite authors. There’s no time like the present, so in your free time, get a paper or computer and write whatever comes to mind. Whether you already have something concrete or a few words, put them on the page. Even if you only write a page or a paragraph, take pride in the effort you’ve started. It takes time and practice to come up with ideas. Writing is therapeutic, good for the mind, and a fun way to spend the day.
