The world recently saw the release of another Marvel movie: Captain America: Brave New World. This new film picks up where The Falcon and the Winter Soldier left off in 2021. It was even announced on the same day the 2021 film premiered. With Anthony Mackie starring as Sam Wilson and continuing to weld Captain America’s famous shield, the superhero finds himself at the center of an international crisis after meeting the newly elected US president, Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford. Audiences soon find out that President Ross has a red-hot secret.

The Initial Reception at the Box Office

The film also features up-and-coming stars Danny Ramirez, from blockbuster Top Gun Maverick, and Shira Hass, from critically acclaimed Netflix miniseries Unorthodox. Released on the Friday of President’s Day weekend, the film has become the fourth-biggest release during this specific holiday weekend. With over $192.4 million globally, it is the 35th-consecutive Marvel film to open at number one at the domestic box office. However, after consulting the Rotten Tomatoes reviews, critics rate it 51 percent. But after skimming through fan reviews, the consensus is that this is a solid theater blockbuster but nothing over-the-top special for a Marvel film.

Who is Red Hulk?

As the original Han Solo and Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford is no stranger to blockbuster franchises. Here, he stars as US President Thaddeus Ross. Viewers soon find out that President Ross’ alter-ego is the Red Hulk. Similar to the (green) Hulk, Red Hulk also possesses superhuman strength, but his gamma radiation can be felt as heat, hence the color red representing the increased temperature. If you want to track down the introduction of Red Hulk within the comic universe, you can find his first appearance in the 2008 Hulk #1 by writer Jeph Loeb and artist Ed McGuinness.
