“No doubt, once I am done, there will be huge debate about which version of the story is better.” George R.R. Martin talks new book in recent post!

Game of Thrones fans are learning all kinds of new things! We’ve received a bit more information about the upcoming Jon Snow spin-off series from HBO, the premiere date for House of Dragons, and now fans can rest easy knowing The Winds of Winter won’t align completely with the ending of the HBO Game of Thrones! Personally, I’m very excited to see where George takes us next, but let’s take a look at what he said in his most recent blog post, A Winter Garden.

Okay, so what is The Winds of Winter anyway? This is the planned sixth novel in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice & Fire fantasy series. The series that the HBO TV show Game of Thrones is based on. The author has managed to avoid giving a hard and fast end date for Winds, instead offering readers an inside look at his writing process. “My stories grow and evolve and change as I write them.”

He continues stating that he is continuously working on Winds, while also working on other projects as well. Possibly alluding to his involvement in the upcoming HBO prequels for Game of Thrones. However, avid fans of A Song of Ice & Fire aren’t able to rest easy yet. We all want to know if the ending of the books will match that of the HBO Game of Thrones series. George had this to say:

I have been at work in my winter garden. Things are growing… and changing, as does happen with us gardeners. What I have noticed more and more of late, however, is my gardening is taking me further and further away from the television series.

I take that as a win for us fans. Though George remains diplomatic throughout his blog posting, fans speculate that is due to the author’s involvement with HBO. I, for one, am excited after reading through George’s words. He reminds fans, “The novels are much bigger and much much more complex than the series. Certain things that happened on HBO will not happen in the books. And vice versa.”

Though Game of Thrones is still one of the most in-demand shows for HBO, many fans were disappointed with the ending. Bookstr’s own, Sophie, remarked on the ending saying, “The way the storyline was rushed was as if the producers were running around with their heads chopped off trying to frantically piece together an ending.” And Sophie wasn’t the only one with a problem. Gaskets blew all over the place when the final episode ended.

So with the recent developments from George, how are you feeling about the ending of The Winds of Winter? Because, according to his blog, George is feeling ‘contemplative.’

And the ending? You will need to wait until I get there. Some things will be the same. A lot will not.
