It’s time to get ready to attend Briar University again because Elle Kennedy’s Off-Campus series is finally coming to a screen near you! Following the popularity of their adaptation for Jenny Han’s The Summer I Turned Pretty, Amazon Prime Video has ordered a TV series adaptation for Kennedy’s five-book series. The showrunner for this exciting project is Louisa Levy, who has worked on shows like Grey’s Anatomy, The Flight Attendant, and Death and Other Details.
The series will follow the different main characters from each book as members of the elite Briar University hockey team grapple with the new women in their lives. They learn how to handle heartbreak, love, and personal growth while balancing friendships and navigating life as adults.
Off-Campus Adaptation
Levy will be executive producing with Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, Leanna Billings, Neal Flaherty, with Elle Kennedy acting as a producer with Amazon MGM Studios. Temple Hill Production’s executive Annika Patton spearheaded this project and will be overseen by their TV executive James Seidman. Even Amazon MGM Studios’ head of television, Vernon Sanders stated that, once the series premieres, Prime Video customers will fall in love with Kennedy’s story all over again.
Since its release, the Off-Campus series has sold over three million copies on Amazon across 24 markets. Kennedy’s books have even been translated into over 25 languages, selling over 10 million copies worldwide. Readers can find her books at bookstores, online, and on Bloom Books, a popular romance publisher.
The Deal by Elle Kennedy
If you’re as big of a fan of Garrett Graham as I am, then get ready because The Deal will be the focus for season one! Released in 2015, The Deal is the first book in the Off-Campus series. While Off-Campus is a series, each book can be read as a standalone. The Deal follows Hannah, a talented music major, and Garrett, the star center for Briar University’s hockey team heading for the NHL. The two strike a deal that will benefit them both. Garrett needs help passing an important class, while Hannah wants to catch the attention of the school’s new star football player. All they have to do is pretend to date for a few months, but what happens when the feelings aren’t fake anymore?
What to Expect for the Future of Off-Campus
If you want to keep reading more about the Briar Universe, check out Kennedy’s other series, Briar U and Campus Diaries. The characters from this universe appear more than once in every book, so if you’re sad after finishing The Deal and want to see more of Hannah and Garrett, then you’ll be excited to hear they appear throughout the series.
Should this series adaptation be renewed for more seasons, fans can expect The Mistake, The Score, The Goal, and possibly, The Legacy to be featured. The Legacy is a five-year time jump for every couple in the Off-Campus series, each getting their own section. From engagements and elopements to weddings and even a surprise pregnancy, you’ll just have to read to find out what happens next.
Don’t worry, every character appears in more than one book, so you don’t have to miss them that much. It’s always fun seeing how they all connect and witnessing how they all become friends, too. If you’re as excited as I am, wait for more details like the release date! I think it’s time for another re-read for me to prepare for this.
