This is the year for book adaptations to hit our screens. From horror favorites like Stephen King to guilty pleasure dramas with Colleen Hoover, from movies to TV shows, there’s an adaptation for everyone. We’re going to break down some recently-announced book adaptations you can look forward to, from release dates to the cast and crew. Read on to learn more.

Regretting You by Colleen Hoover

After the success of It Ends With Us, another Colleen Hoover adaptation is in the works and hoping to start filming in March 2025. Regretting You is a heartbreaking story of a mother and daughter navigating a difficult time while trying to deal with their already rocky relationship. The cast is said to include Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, Mason Thames, and Dave Franco. The cast and crew is really promising as the script was written by Susan McMartin, directed by Josh Boone, and producers include Brunson Green and author of the After series, Anna Todd.

A Prayer for the Dying by Stewart O’Nan

This survival thriller based on the books by Stewart O’Nan is set in 1870 and follows a group of Scandinavian settlers in a small town as they deal with the repercussions of the civil war; These settlers are in more danger when a new threat comes to town, and someone has to make the difficult decision of saving their family or town. Unfortunately a release date has not been set, but the cast includes Johnny Flynn, John C. Reilly, Kristine Kujath Thorp, and Gustav Lindh.

Rivals by Jilly Cooper

This eight part series on Disney+ is an adaptation of the hit novel Rivals by Jilly Cooper. Set during the ’80s in a fictional British town with rich social elites, Rivals is about an intense rivalry between two competitive men. One is an ex-Olympic rider and Tory MP, and the other, a determined TV station controller. This is said to be a funny and racy show. The cast includes familiar faces such as David Tennant, Alex Hassell, Aidan Turner, Danny Dyer, Claire Rushbrook, and Luke Pasqualino. This is set to be released on October 18 and can be streamed on Hulu in the US and Disney+ in the UK.

The Running Man by Stephen King

Already having multiple of his novels adapted for the screen, Stephen King is about to have another adaptation made following the original film made in 1987 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. With the release of Hitman, Anyone But You, and Twisters, Glen Powell has been in a number of successful projects this year and is set to star in The Running Man remake. This dystopian film is yet to have a release date, but is set to release in 2025 and follows a man as he participates in a reality show where contestants must escape hitmen in order to win money. The world it’s set in is violent and economically ruined.
