Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the beloved middle-grade fantasy series many of us grew up reading, is finally getting a new adaptation after the end of the original movie series that premiered in 2010. Now, a decade after the second — and last — movie in the canceled series dropped, the trailer for the much-anticipated television series is here! Keep reading for everything you need to know about the show, including when and where to watch it and what you can expect.

The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series follows middle-schooler Percy Jackson as he is thrust into the magical world of Greek mythology. After learning that he is the son of the sea god, Poseidon, Percy makes his way to Camp Half-Blood, a haven for demigod children where they can seek protection from mythical beasts and learn to harness their powers. Together with his friends Annabeth and Grover, Percy takes on a series of fantastical quests, all the while coming into his power and finding his place in this extraordinary new world.

Based on this new trailer, it seems the show will follow the plot of the books closely. In it, you can see several iconic scenes from the book series, including the moment when Percy discovers his demigod powers on a school trip, Percy and Grover’s perilous journey to Camp Half-Blood, the main trio’s trip to the Lotus Hotel and Casino, and so much more!

The show features many familiar faces, including Lin-Manuel Miranda in the role of Hermes, the messenger of the gods; professional wrestler Adam Copeland — also known by his stage name, Edge — as Ares, the god of war; and the late Lance Reddick as Zeus, the god of the sky and the ruler of Olympus. Leah Sava Jeffries will star as Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena, while Aryan Simhadri will take on the role of Grover Underwood, Percy’s satyr best friend. The show’s titular role will be played by Walker Scobell, known for starring alongside Ryan Reynolds in Netflix’s The Adam Project.

The first two episodes of the series will premiere on Disney Plus on December 20, with new episodes being released on a weekly basis. Mark your calendars and get excited for this latest iteration of Percy Jackson’s incredible saga!
