In this week’s Author Questions, we’re featuring Delemhach, author of the House Witch series, which they began writing as a way to share a sense of warmth, fun, and love of food with their readers! Born and raised in Canada, Delemhach chats with Bookstr to tell us all about their journey as a writer and why they love what they do! Join us for another exciting, insightful look into the life and passion behind another genuinely talented author.
Who Is Delemhach?
Delemhach is the brilliant mind behind the House Witch series, and already has plans and progress on their next trilogy, The Ether Witch, where we find out what happens to Katarina Ashowan’s mysterious brother, Tamlin. When Delemhach isn’t spending time with their intelligent cats, Kraken and Pina Colada, they love to give private music lessons, cook, read, hike, spend time with family and friends, and try their hardest not to cringe at the past socially awkward moments that have so far taken place in their life. (Don’t we all do that?)

The House Witch

The first novel in the series, The House Witch, follows the story of a young man named Finlay Ashowan who finds a job as a chef to the King and Queen of Daxaria as a way to run away from his troubled past. He’s in the perfect place — nobody knows where he came from, who he truly is, or that he has magical powers. As Finlay starts to settle in, the kingdom starts to notice his powers, and he is forced into many complicated situations: fighting knights, aiding the pregnant queen, and uncovering a spy in the kingdom, to name a few. As problems continue to rise for Finlay and his past won’t stop catching up with him, he is forced to find a way to end it all.
The Princess of Potential

In the second installment, Delemhach takes us twenty years post House Witch, where we encounter the crown princess, Ania of Troivack, as she’s about to choose a husband for herself. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Finlay and his wife Annika and their two children, Katarina and Tamlin, and a highly intolerable suitor, the King of Troivack, all find themselves visiting the new residence of the kingdom. Faced with exponential social pressures, Ania must prepare herself for lots of flirting and wild adventures as she is about to embark on this new journey in her life.
The Burning Witch

For the third installment, we get a glimpse into the life of Finlay’s daughter, Katarina. While Ania is soon to be crowned Queen of Troivack, Kat is to make a journey with Ania’s obnoxious brother Eric, from Daxaria to Troivack, to visit his sister. Although, as they advance in their travels together, they find they’re becoming more acquainted with one another, and might even be developing a spark. In the meantime, Kat is having a hard time dealing with royal expectations and manners. Will she learn how to properly behave and control her newly developed, fiery powers?
The Questions
What does storytelling mean to you?
Storytelling means getting to share a lot of warmth and magic that I kind of had living in my head ever since I was a little kid, and getting to experience that kind of excitement and fun with anyone who finds it interesting to listen to! And, you know, you get to meet some really great people.
What do you love about the fantasy genre, and do you ever plan on venturing into other genres?
Well, what I love about the fantasy genre is that the sky is the limit. What can you imagine? What can you reason out? And you get to make stuff fit to your world, your vision, your magic, your people… it’s just you can have so much fun with it; there’s so much you can do! Would I ever go into other genres? Probably, specifically, I’m not too sure. Maybe a historical fiction. I have had a number of requests for a little bit more of a romance-heavy kind of series, so we’ll see what happens in the future.

From learning about her different accomplishments to learning about her love for fantasy and storytelling, we have truly enjoyed getting to know Delemhach, and we couldn’t be more grateful that we had this chance to chat. Thank you, Delemhach! We hope we get to meet again! Thanks for tuning in! We hope you’ve enjoyed reading it as much as we loved creating it.
