Did you know that Pike dropped out of college? I didn’t. Even though Pike didn’t finish college, he didn’t let that hold him back. But he didn’t become an author right away, in fact, he had quite a few other jobs before he found his calling in writing. He worked in a factory, painted houses, and programmed computers.

Writing for young adults and children wasn’t where Pike started out. He actually tried his hand at writing science-fiction and adult mystery first. Even though the publishers weren’t interested in Pike’s science-fiction or adult mystery, one editor was interested in his work and suggested he try teen thrillers. From there history was made, as Pike’s young adult thrillers took off. He also writes thrillers for children, which can be found in Spooksville.

While a highly private person, Kevin McFadden, the man behind Christopher Pike, has shared some of the influences behind his work. Pike’s writing is often influenced by his favorite authors: Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlein, Agatha Christie, and Stephen King. His writing is also not strictly bound to horror, as you will often find traces of science-fiction, spirituality, and mythology within his words.
