Bookstagrammer of The Week – @booksneverdie

Welcome our Bookstagrammer of The Week @booksneverdie! Her page is warm, inviting, and comfortable as if you are lounging and reading the books with her.

Book Culture Bookstagram

Meet our Bookstagrammer of The Week, Anouk of @booksneverdieAnouk is from a small village in the Netherlands, where no bookstores are nearby. Although she shares her love of books with her Dad and bonds over their shared interest in Young Adult novels, she still felt like something was missing. Anouk wanted “a safe and enthusiastic place where I could share my love for reading without instantly getting labeled as a ‘nerd’ by my in-real-life friends,” leading her to seek a connection from the Bookstagram community by starting her Bookstagram in July of 2018.

She currently has 30.6k followers to share her love of books and enjoys talking to them about their latest reads. One of her favorite things to hear from her followers is that they fell in love with a book she recommended, as it makes her feel like she has made a difference in the community. She enjoys “being an inspiration to others,” and hearing her Bookstagram inspired others to start their own.

What is your favorite book cover?

Oof, tough one! Shatter Me, The Kiss Of Deception, and Kingdom Of The Wicked are high up on that list. But, if we’re talking alternative covers, then definitely the Elithienart ACOTAR dust jackets!

What is your favorite Bookstore?

There sadly aren’t any bookstores close to where I live, but every year in August, there’s a huge book market in a city called Deventer that I’m always looking forward to; I think it’s the biggest in Europe. Sadly, it got canceled last year due to COVID-19, and I think the same will happen for this year. I used to go there with my father, and we’d walk around for hours. It’s honestly amazing!

Do you have any favorite Bookstagrammers?

Oh, there are quite a few. But I’ll try to narrow it down;

Let’s Talk about Bookstagram

When did you know you had made it as a Bookstagrammer?

Last November was the first time I received a finished copy of a book I requested through Penguin Random House. That was a huge milestone for me!

What’s Your Special Approach to Content?

I’m not sure if I have a special approach, to be honest. With my current theme, it’s the first time I’m using a preset that I’ve created myself, so I guess I’m kind of proud of that? I try to bring back the same colors in every picture, though.

What is your aesthetic / Instagram page theme?

Hmm, I’d say bright or vibrant.

How often do you post?

I try to post daily, sometimes even twice a day. It depends on the mood I’m in, to be honest. But I also have periods where I don’t post for like 3-4 days in a row.

What does your Bookstagram mean to you?

I am so grateful for this wonderful community and the friends I’ve made so far! Bookstagram makes it very easy to talk about books and to find others with that same passion, and I’m still so glad I discovered it :) It’s kind of my creative outlet.

Do you have any advice for aspiring Bookstagrammers?

Just have fun! Post whatever you feel comfortable with, whether through normal posts or reels, do whatever feels right. My number one tip for growth is to post reels. They have some kind of way to reach others more easily, and it is because I started posting reels that I was able to grow.

Let’s Get into Fun Facts and Additional Bookishness

Who is your fictional crush?

Aaron Warner will forever have my heart! But Reid Diggory is a close second.

What is a Fun Fact about you?

I have an unhealthy obsession with morally grey characters. The Darkling from Shadow & Bone and Alessandra from The Shadows Between Us can come to visit me anytime they want!!

What is on your TBR List?

I don’t have any TBR lists, mostly because I have not once succeeded in following them. I would, however, like to read Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I know; shame on me for not having read it yet. I would also like to read Frostblood by Elly Blake soon. Oh, and also Kingdom Of The Wicked! But I’ll first have to buy a copy for that one actually to be able to read it.

Who would you have supply you with a lifetime of books?

Kasie West, Holly Jackson, Sarah J. Maas, and Brigid Kemmerer. I can always get lost in their stories. But also Penguin Random House, Harper Teen, and Bloomsbury.

What author would you like to take a selfie with?

Definitely, Tahereh Mafi!

Book you have claimed to have read that you didn’t?

A Sky Beyond The Storm. But mostly because I got spoiled, and I don’t want to experience the heartbreak that I know will come.

Do you have any additional bookishness you would like to share?

I am a mood reader and can go a month without finishing a book. Don’t let others convince you that you’re not a true reader if you haven’t finished a single book in more than 30+ days. Read books at your own pace! For example, I can easily finish one book a month, but also thirteen books a month. That one month doesn’t make me less of a reader. Just do you!
