Winnie the Pooh, snowmen, and other adorable mascots; you know and love them. These cute icons induce warm fuzzies when you think about them. But what happens when these loveable characters are twisted into dark, nightmare versions of themselves? The internet has been doing this for years, using these characters as creepypasta fodder. Creepypasta is a term used to describe an internet-born horror legend. Examples of creepypasta horror characters include Jeff the Killer, Ben Drowned, and Slenderman.
The concept has become so popular that movie studios are building on it. The Twisted Childhood Universe, or TCU, is an ongoing movie series produced by Jagged Edge Studios that features beloved childhood characters turned evil. Read on to see some of your favorite characters turned into monsters sure to ruin your childhood memories.

Winnie the Pooh
Winnie the Pooh is an icon; a funny bear who loves honey and represents an idyllic childhood. However, Rhys Frake Waterfield from Jagged Edge Studios has reimagined the Hundred Acre Wood into a nightmarish hellscape filled with cannibalistic animals with their ringleader being Winnie the Pooh himself. In Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, Winnie the Pooh and his friends cannibalize Eeyore during a particularly harsh winter after Christopher Robin leaves for college.
The movie features gory scenes depicting Piglet and Winnie the Pooh torturing victims in a slasher-esque style. Such scenes include Christopher Robin being whipped by Pooh and another minor character being thrown into a wood chipper. While the movie received overwhelmingly bad reviews, it was still a success monetary-wise, leading to the creation of the TCU.
Ben Drowned
Anybody who loves video games is familiar with The Legend of Zelda. The game’s mascot and main character, Link, is well-beloved by many. One of Link’s popular games is Majora’s Mask, which takes place after Ocarina of Time. The Majora’s Mask Haunted Cartridge creepypasta was originally posted in 2010 by Jadusable. The story involves user Jadusable purchasing a Majora’s Mask cartridge secondhand and then being haunted by a child spirit named Ben, who appears as Link in the game.
In a twist on the found-footage horror genre, Jadusable witnesses several off-putting scenes of Link in the creepypasta, including Link clutching his head and screaming as he drowns or a Link statue following Jadusable throughout the game from the corner of the screen. The series goes on to involve cults and a weird religious ending of a society movement orchestrated by said cult.
Sonic.exe
Similar to Link, Sonic is a beloved video game character. He is known for his sass and speed, and has even gotten a three part movie deal with the third movie launching in December. Also similar to Link, Sonic has been turned into nightmare fuel via creepypasta and game series Sonic.exe.
The games, created by MY5tCrimson, feature the titular character Sonic in horrifying scenarios. Sonic.exe, according to internet legend, is a malevolent god taking over the Sonic character’s appearance to conduct horrible misdeeds. This includes Sonic asking the player to play a game with him, specifically hide and seek, where Sonic hunts down Tails on the screen and murders him.
Jack Frost
Jack Frost nipping at your nose? The 1997 Film version of Jack Frost is going to do more than nip. While there’s a variety of evil snowmen to choose from, including a phone game, we’re focusing on this movie as it’s a cult classic among horror fans.
Jack Frost starts out as a serial killer in the movie and is dissolved into snow due to a chemical at the beginning of the movie. He takes the form of an evil snowman and commits atrocious, nightmarish acts. These include and aren’t limited to decapitation via sled, axe murder, and sexual assault.
Bambi
An upcoming film of Jagged Edge Studios and the new addition to the TCU is Bambi: The Reckoning. Set to release in 2025, Bambi is going from sweetheart to serial killer as he hunts down a mother and son in a car wreck due to the grief he experiences at the loss of his own mother.
The studio is taking inspiration from the popular horror movie The Ritual and, like the Winnie the Pooh adaptation, promises audiences another bloodbath.
Each of these stories draws from childhood innocence to create a horrific tale, making them so effective and popular. By subverting idyllic childhood memories into nightmares, the TCU and creepypasta have drawn in audiences from all over, ready to have sacred mascots distorted into evil villains.
