It’s officially Aries season! From now until April 19th, people with Aries placements will see their fiery personalities shine through more than ever. As the youngest sign in the Zodiac, Aries is energetic, spontaneous and confident. Aries seek adventure and excitement at every turn. If you’re wanting to tap into that energy this season, these are the books for you.
1. Girls Burn Brighter by Shobha Rao
Savitha and Poornima are strong young women that are dealt a poor hand in life. The two find solace in each other as they navigate poverty and the impending destinies others have set out for them. When the two are separated, they do everything in their power to be reunited. Girls Burn Brighter inspires us with hope like a fire that cannot be put out. It’s a heavier read, but its themes of resilience and optimism are perfectly fitting for Aries season.
2. The Martian by Andy Weir
Aries’ ruling planet is Mars, so what better time to read this sci-fi masterpiece? The Martian follows the story of astronaut Mark Watney after he is left stranded on Mars. Watney exhibits classic Aries traits of determination and strong will as he struggles to survive alone on the red planet. The journey through this novel is exhilarating, vivid and surprisingly vulnerable. It’s a must-add to all science fiction lovers’ TBR.
3. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
This dystopian YA trilogy has Aries written all over it. Katniss Everdeen is a teenage girl from District 12. She lives in Panem, a post-apocalyptic North America where fascism and inequality reign supreme. She is thrown into the deadly Hunger Games after volunteering to take her sister’s place. Now she must fight 23 other children to the death to save herself and appease the Capitol. But Katniss has other plans. “The Girl on Fire” has a bone to pick with those in power, and is determined to beat them at their own game. If you’re looking for a protagonist with major Aries energy, Katniss is your girl.
4. This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone
Aries placements may find themselves less patient and attentive this season. If this is you, This Is How You Lose The Time War is the perfect pick. Red and Blue are two agents of different factions, from different points in time. As they fight against one another to secure victory for their own faction, they begin to fall in love. Threats become love letters and fights become romantic rendezvous. It’s a fast-paced story of war and passion. What could be more Aries than that?
5. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
Aries romantics, this one’s for you. The Song of Achilles is an award-winning retelling of the Trojan War. Through the eyes of Patroclus, we witness his coming-of-age and his romance with the noble demigod Achilles. This page-turner shows us both the heat of battle and the heat of passion two ill-fated lovers share. It is the very essence of the Aries sign and a must-read.
