It’s that time of the week again, Bookstr Team Tuesday! This week, we’re featuring Senior Writer and Editor Alexandra Mellott. She not only writes epic articles for our Bookstr Fam, but she helps edit and mentors junior writers, as well as project manages our crowdsourced special project. Her talents are undeniable, and if you give her the opportunity to write or talk about Percy Jackson or K-Pop, she’ll surely give you an entertaining and in-depth piece!
This amazing writer just finished her BA in Creative Writing over the weekend of May 11th — Congrats, Alex!!! Some of her favorite things are the color yellow, paperback books, and her adorable pets — a cat and a dog. Believe it or not, she has a tendency to read the last page of the book she picks up before starting it, just so she’s not surprised about the ending.
Alexandra loves YA fantasy, so much so she plans on writing in the genre in the near future. She would love to immerse herself in the world of Percy Jackson, if she could take Jungkook and the found family in The Witcher with her, she’d never come back. Let’s take a look at her favorite YA fantasy books — and maybe a classic might be thrown in.
Shatter Me Series by Tahereh Mafi
I absolutely love Mafi’s poetic language, and her characters are so dynamic. Warner is just a beautifully written character who’s so misunderstood, and he’s part of the reason why this is my ultimate favorite series. He is the book boyfriend.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
I just adore Elizabeth Bennet as a character. She’s so strong-willed, obstinate, and lovely that I can’t help but enjoy her. Additionally, I’m a girl’s girl, so like, Elizabeth doing her thing is respectable.
Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan
This series is just so funny and relatable. Percy Jackson is one of my favorite book characters, and he’s so real in everything he does and tells himself. Also, I’m a big fan of Greek mythology, so I enjoy all the lore tied into these books.
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
I love Rose Hathaway as a character. She’s funny and sarcastic, and it’s hard not to laugh when she’s in some scenes. Plus, Dimitri is a book crush of mine, and he’s so adorable. I also just love supernatural elements, like vampires, so there’s that, too.
The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare
Jace Herondale-Wayland-Morgenstern-Lightwood is a hilarious and beautifully sarcastic character. Additionally, Isabelle Lightwood and Magnus are huge pros of this series. These books are just so action-packed and filled with comedic dialogue that I couldn’t help but fall in love with them.
The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare
I have a soft spot for Herondales. I can’t help it. However, Jem stole my heart in this book. I think Jem Carstairs is the reason I love this book so much. He’s such an amazing and compassionate character that it makes the whole series for me.
The Covenant Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I think this series is so underrated. It’s similar to Vampire Academy, and Alex is such a funny book character. Also, Aiden is the absolute cutest character, and the two are such a great couple.
