Here at Bookstr, we understand craving a specific type of read at a certain time. As such, we’ve organized these MM romance series recs into three categories to match your reading mood — 💖 Sweet & Cozy, 💔 Angsty & Emotional, and 🖤 Dark & Complex — so you can find your next favorite series in whatever genres and themes you’re craving.
💖 Sweet & Cozy
💖 Four Bears Construction by K.M. Neuhold
Series length: 8 books
Four Bears Construction centers around four (and later more!) big, bearded men working at a construction company in a small town — and the tender, chaotic romances they encounter along the way. Each book features a different pairing and standalone story, while still contributing to the broader series.
The series plays with familiar romance tropes, from best friends to opposites-attract to forced proximity, with heartwarming queer twists. Every love story here is full of chemistry, sex positivity, and men who know how to use their tools.

At its heart, this series is about emotional connection and soft masculinity in big bodies. These characters look tough on the outside (just look at the cover!) but under all that they’re sensitive, thoughtful, and longing for connection.
While the books don’t shy away from the steamy scenes (there’s plenty), they put the focus on character vulnerability and community support over intense drama or angst. Overall, it’s an unapologetically queer comfort series that’s warm, witty, and welcoming — and we promise you won’t be able to stop smiling.
💖 Garnet Run by Roan Parrish
Series length: 6 books
Garnet Run is a small-town romance series set in a fictional Wyoming town with rustic bookstores, eclectic neighbors, and a warm community. Each book features a different MM couple who find connection through each other in slow-burn romance tales. The books explore grief and heartbreak, emotional intimacy, and found family in everyday life.

Like Four Bears Construction, the conflicts in this series are interpersonal and character-driven rather than being high-drama. The romances unfold at a slow, gentle pace, and Parrish writes queer characters with care. The town is a perfect backdrop for these stories, supporting the blooming relationships within these books as they find lasting love.
💔 Angsty & Emotional
💔 Legacy of Gods by Rina Kent
Series length: 6 books
If comfortable and cozy isn’t quite what you’re looking for right now, no worries! Legacy of Gods is a fantastic MM romantasy series blending myth, magic, and queer romance. Set in a world where gods and mortals coexist precariously, each book follows a different central couple.

The lives of the characters within this series are messy and complex, and whether it’s a deity grappling with power or a disgraced warrior unable to face his past, these individuals are forced to work through their difficulties. These tales are set in a world of temples, prophecies, and geographic lore, but the central focus of each novel is on two men trying to understand each other and themselves.
💔 The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice & Virtue by Mackenzi Lee
Series length: 3 books
Set in 18th-century Europe, The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice & Virtue is a charming MM historical romance series. It follows Henry “Monty” Montague, a rebellious young aristocrat who’s about to suffer the mortification of being shipped off to finishing school. That is, unless he can keep his act together on a Grand Tour with his best friend (and longstanding secret crush), Percy.
Their journey quickly becomes fraught with obstacles and chaos involving political drama and pirates — but the true heart of this story revolves around Monty’s own internal struggles as a queer Black man, and his deepening relationship with Percy.

Mackenzi Lee doesn’t shy away from fully conveying the difficulties Monty faces, especially in a historical context, but she consistently embeds levity and hope into the prose. Both heartwrenching and heartwarming for its richly drawn characters and intimate relationships, this series is a fantastic emotional pick.
🖤 Dark & Complex
🖤 Necessary Evil by Onley James
Series length: 3 books
This is a dark, twisted, and eminently readable MM romance saga following the Mulvaney family — a group of brilliant, adopted psychopaths raised and trained by billionaire psychiatrist Thomas Mulvaney to become vigilantes. Each book in this trilogy centers on one of the brothers’ psyches and romantic lives, exploring themes of violence and sex.
This series isn’t afraid to dive headfirst into morally gray space — in fact, it features murder, torture, trauma, and mental health struggles that most romance novels steer away from altogether — while still never glorifying cruelty.

Onley James beautifully balances darker moments with levity as he explores these vigilantes, individuals who don’t experience emotion in a typical way. Readers craving complex characters, dark romance, and dynamics that toe the line of legality will adore this series.
🖤 Monster Trilogy by Rina Kent
Series length: 3 books
Monster Trilogy is a dark mafia romance filled with obsession, manipulation, and toxicity. Kirill is an exacting Bratva boss who has forbidden himself to love the enticing Sasha–yet he can’t make himself let go.
This series spans years of their secretive, often violent relationship, accompanied by elements of possessiveness and coercion. It’s made clear from the beginning that these characters are not good people, but messy, twisted ones clawing their way through love.

Still, through Rina Kent’s layered character building and measured pacing, these brutal characters become sympathizable and even lovable in moments. The writing is relentlessly evocative, pushing us readers to consider themes of passion and control in our own lives. This isn’t a tale of healing or redemption — but if you’re looking for knife’s-edge intensity and dark, boiling chemistry, this trilogy could be the one for you.
MM romance spans a beautifully wide range of tones and tropes, so no matter what you’re interested in reading today, there’s a series to match your interests. Hopefully something on this list has captivated your attention, and will keep you engrossed for weeks to come. And who knows — maybe you’ll come back when you’re in the mood for something a little different!
