You know that saying, “Books are better than people”? Well, for introverted bookworms, it’s true. Or at least, 90% of the time it’s true. That other 10% when books aren’t better than people is when two like-minded bookworms are hanging out and discussing books. Then people are pretty cool (but don’t get it twisted, books are a very close second).
We introverted bookworms are pretty low-maintenance. Because of this, we only need a few things to make us breathe that perfect sigh of contentment. Want to make an introverted bookworm’s day? Give them these items, and you’ll forever be on their good side.
Good Books

We’ve almost always got a book in our hands or somewhere close by. We love a good book to keep us company because people are just. too. exhausting. I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather spend my time reading a book that is no doubt going to put me through the emotional wringer and keep me up at night rather than talk to a real person. Real people are too complicated sometimes. Books on the other hand? Equally as complicated, I’ll give you that, but much more fun to get lost in.
Hot Drinks

Honestly, just a good book and a cup of coffee in one of my favorite mugs is enough to give me that warm and fuzzy feeling inside. Nothing beats curling up in your favorite reading nook with a good book and a nice steaming cup of coffee or tea. It just feels right. To quote John Mulaney, “This is the height of luxury!”
If you’re like me and love collecting coffee mugs, check out some amazingly bookish mugs here.
A Laptop

Our laptops are sacred to us, they hold all of our secrets. And by secrets I mean we’ve got our book lists on them and all of our streaming services bookmarked on the Internet. Like I said, sacred. With our laptops we can still feel like part of the world… from the safety of our homes, surrounded by books and countless tea and coffee mugs.
Comfy Clothes

You can’t have an enjoyable day/night in with your books without some comfy clothes. Not hanging out with people means not having to worry about getting dressed up and putting on real pants when really, you just want to wear your favorite oversized hoodie and some sweats or leggings. Wearing real pants means you have to be productive, and no one wants to do that.
You know what I say? Down with real pants. No more productivity for me, I’m just gonna not talk to anyone and read. Who’s standing with me?! Just kidding, that’s a rhetorical question because every introvert right now is thinking, “Do I actually have to answer, or can I just go back to reading and not speaking?” Keep on reading, fellow introvert.
Houseplants

This one is an essential if you’re a plant person. Plants are nice because whenever you feel like you’re not doing a good job of something, you can look at your plant and think, “Well, I’m not that bad, I’m keeping this guy alive, aren’t I?” It’s a major serotonin boost to see your plants looking happy. Way to go, you. You kept that plant alive another day!
You may have noticed that a threw an “if” in the first sentence. That’s because some of us aren’t plant people, and that’s okay. Do I want to be someone who has lots of cool plants? Absolutely. But can I successfully take care of a plant? Absolutely not.
I don’t know what it is, but plants hate me, even succulents. I water them (but not too much to drown them) and yet they still die. At this point, I think houseplants just have a personal vendetta against me. So, if you’re like me and can’t take care of one, it’s okay, your Introverted Bookworm Survival Kit can go without the plants. It’s all good.
A Journal For Self-Care

We could argue that reading a book is self-care, but let’s be honest. Sometimes we need a journal to write our thoughts and feelings down. Self-care is incredibly important, so keep a journal handy with you. If you’re ever stressed, get all those feelings out on paper. Even if it sounds weird when you write out what you’re feeling and why, it’s cathartic. If you’re feeling on top of the world it’s great to have a journal to jot things down anyway. Maybe you just came up with a great idea for a future novel? It’s your lucky day because you’ve got your journal handy!
Introverted Bookworms, Unite!
And there you have it, some essential items for introverted bookworms. Like I mentioned earlier, we’re low maintenance and don’t need much to make us happy. Just don’t talk to us while we’re reading, please.
